Which Surah For Peace Of Mind

Life is not always free from difficulties and sorrows. All human beings face their own sets of challenges and difficulties. One may have to face the loss of loved ones, health, wealth, or be tested through fear or hunger. Hence, for every human being on this planet, life is a test. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: –

“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits but give good tidings to the patient.” (2:155)

Meaning of Inner Peace:

The realisation that one is perceiving and doing in line with the instructions of one’s Creator gives to absolute tranquillity and peace of mind. This peace of mind may afterward be hereditary across society, generations, people around us, and the whole planet.

Individuals can only experience true and total peace when they establish internal peace. This is the consequence of Islam, which is complete devotion to Allah Almighty alone.

Real Meaning of Happiness:

Happiness is a psychological state of contentment defined by pleasant feelings varying from pleasure to excessive ease. We all want mental calm and pleasure in our lives as human beings. Life is full of twists and turns, but there are many small successes that go unrecognized in between. Take time to congratulate yourself on these modest victories. Appreciate what you already have.

Surahs For Peace of Mind and Happiness

Here are a few chapters in the Holy Qur’an that you can refer to clear your mind.

1. Surah Yusuf

Surah Yusuf is a chapter of the Holy Qur’an that mentions the story of Prophet Yusuf (A.S) in great detail. The chapter is filled with life lessons and also highlights the difficulties that people can relate to. Some of the important lessons that can be learned from this chapter are:

1) Allah Gives Honor and Blessings to Whoever He Wishes

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: –

“And thus, will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob (Yaqoob), as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham (Ibrahim) and Isaac (Ishaque). Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise.” (12:6)

Be happy for the one whom Allah has blessed with goodness. Your time will also come, so don’t plot harm to others. Allah knows and plans what is better for you as He is the Wisest, so He will give you something beneficial for you at the right moment.

Don’t begin to hate the person whom Allah has blessed, as it doesn’t mean that He is ignoring you. Allah knows what is beneficial for you and the person blessed.

2) Patience in Misfortune Reaps Rewards

When the remaining sons of Yaqoob (AS) brought the blood-stained shirt of Yusuf (AS) and narrated a false story, Yaqoob (AS) remained patient and placed his trust in Allah. Allah says in the Qur’an: –

“And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, “Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe.” (12:18)

Sometimes, every one of us faces situations that are out of our control. Instead of losing hope, place your trust in the one who has power over all things. The fabricated tale of Yusuf’s death didn’t disrupt Prophet Yaqoob’s trust in Allah, and Allah granted him honor.

Place your trust in Allah’s plan for you, and you will be grateful to Him in the future.

3) Depend on Allah

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: –

“And he said to the one whom he knew would go free, “Mention me before your master.” But Satan made him forget the mention [to] his master, and Joseph remained in prison several years.” (12:42)

We all face trials in life, and it’s important to connect with Allah more during these difficult times. Keep supplicating to Allah, and He will open the doors of ease for you. Remember, no person can bring us good or harm; it’s only through Allah’s will.

So, establish prayer in their prescribed prayer times, communicate to Allah about your worries, and do your best in fulfilling your duties.

2. Surah Duha

Surah Ad-Duha is the 93rd chapter of the Holy Quran. Allah SWT revealed Surah Ad-Duha to comfort the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at a time when he was feeling disheartened. This surah was very soothing to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who was going through various challenges.

The surah reminds the Prophet (PBUH) of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon him and instructs him to assist the poor and needy. An important lesson that can be withdrawn from Surah Duha is:-

1) The Worldly Life is Temporary whereas the Hereafter Lasts Forever

Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur’an: –

“And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].” (93:4)

Allah SWT tells the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that the honor and bounties that He’s going to bestow him in the Hereafter are far greater than what he has in this world. Similarly, for the believer, the blessings that he has been blessed with are in the form of a trial and are temporary, whereas the blessings that will be rewarded to an honest believer in the Hereafter will be permanent.

This world has been created as a test where difficulty after difficulty will arise. This ayah reminds us that the challenges of this world are temporary and short-lived, but the bounties of Allah in the Hereafter will exist forever. Similarly, the below hadith shows that man has been sent into this world for a short period.

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slept on a straw mat and got up with the marks left by it on his body. Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah! Would that you make us spread out a soft bedding for you.” He (ﷺ) replied, “What have I to do with the world? I am like a rider who had sat under a tree for its shade, then went away and left it.” [At- Tirmidhi, who classified it as Hadith Hasan Sahih]

3. Surah Inshirah

Allah SWT also presented Surah Inshirah, 94th chapter, in the Holy Quran with Surah Duha. Allah informs the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam how Allah relieved the Prophet’s interior suffering by disclosing the Quran to him. Allah SWT says that He would exalt the remembrance of His prophet all throughout the world, and now, somewhere on the planet, someone is chanting Ashadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah every second. Allah SWT also indicates that there is comfort both before and after adversity.

1)Allah has promised ease after difficulty:

“For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.” (Quran 94:5-6)

The verse’s repetition emphasizes that this is a given. Difficult circumstances, emotional anguish, and suffering do not persist indefinitely. Remembering this passage can bring hope and strength to anyone who is going through a difficult time in life. One is given hope that challenges such as despair and grief may be overcome, just as the Prophet (PBUH) was led and freed of his fears and impediments. This Quranic chapter promotes heart peace and might help to heal a stressed soul.
