Everybody has been talking about TheraBreath mouthwash. This mouthwash is all over TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. But if you’ve been to the dental hygiene aisle at Target, you may have noticed there are several TheraBreath options to pick from. Then you may have noticed the price. Can a small bottle of mouthwash really be that good?

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my experience using TheraBreath mouthwash. I’ll let you know if I think it is worth the hefty price tag and I will let you know which flavors are best.

About TheraBreath

TheraBreath is a brand of oral care products that was founded by Dr. Harold Katz, a dentist, and bacteriologist. Dr. Katz started the company in 1994 with the goal of creating oral care products that were effective at combating bad breath. Since then, the brand has expanded to include a range of toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other oral care products. The TheraBreath products are formulated with ingredients that are designed to neutralize the bacteria that can cause bad breath, leaving your mouth feeling clean and fresh.

My Experience Using TheraBreath Mouthwash

To be honest, I was never really great about using mouthwash. Brushing with my Oral-B Pro and flossing with Cocofloss seemed like a sufficient dental hygiene routine. Mouthwash was generally reserved for a quick refresh after I ate something particularly pungent.

I wasn’t really looking for a new mouthwash, but I was intrigued after hearing Jnaydaily talk about it in one of her vlogs.

So during one of my Target runs, I decided to pick some up. Why not?

Walking down the dental hygiene aisle at the store can be overwhelming. There are so many options and how do you know which one is best!?! When I looked for TheraBreath (which was inconveniently located on the top shelf), I noticed there were tons of different bottles. I was going to need to make some decisions. I ended up picking the one in the dark green bottle because I liked the color.

At first use, I was hooked. I really like that the TheraBreath Fresh Breath Oral Rinse doesn’t burn. Even though it doesn’t sting or burn, it still feels like it is working. That’s a win in my book.

The Best Therabreath Oral Rinse Variations

Currently, TheraBreath Oral Rinse is available in:

  • Whitening Fresh Breath Oral Rinse – Dazzling Mint
  • PLUS Fresh Breath Oral Rinse – Peppermint
  • Healthy Gums Oral Rinse w/ Added CPC – Clean Mint
  • Healthy Smile Oral Rinse – Sparkling Mint
  • Dry Mouth Oral Rinse – Tingling Mint
  • Fresh Breath Oral Rinse – Mild Mint
  • Fresh Breath Oral Rinse – Invigorating Icy Mint
  • Fresh Breath Oral Rinse – Rainforest Mint

In addition to having different minty flavors, some of oral rinses have different benefits. If you want to address a specific issue like dry mouth or gum health, there aren’t flavor options. The fluoride mouthwash (Healthy Smile Oral Rinse) only has one flavor as well.

My favorite for TheraBreath product is the Healthy Smile Oral Rinse. It did a great job at keeping my breath fresh and it was the best-tasting flavor. The second best mouth wash is Fresh Breath Oral Rinse in Rainforest Mint.

The two products I liked the least are the Whitening Fresh Breath Oral Rinse and the Fresh Breath Oral Rinse in Mild Mint.

The Price of TheraBreath Oral Rinse

Now let’s talk about the price. I didn’t really think about the price when I bought one and tried it. It was when I went back and wanted to try different flavors that the price jumped out at me. I knew I wanted to write a blog post and that I wanted to try each of the flavors as part of the post. Then I did the math.

I know that my particular circumstance as a blogger is pretty unique. You probably won’t be buying a basketful of mouthwash at your next Target trip. However, when I did a deep dive into the math of using Therabreath regularly, I was surprised at the price tag.

Each bottle of Thereabreath Fresh Breath Oral Rinse is 16oz or 473ml.

It is recommended by the ADA (American Dental Association) to use 20ml of product.

That means one bottle of TheraBreath would only last 23 days if used daily.

For the same price, you can purchase a larger bottle of Listerine that would last more than twice as long (about 50 days).

A year of TheraBreath would cost around $125 while a year of Listerine would be around $58. Generic mouthwash would save you even more at $26 for an entire year’s worth.

But is it worth it?

That’s a difficult question to answer.

From a purely utilitarian perspective, no. It doesn’t work exponentially better than typical mouthwash.

If you are on a budget or are looking to save, I wouldn’t make the change to TheraBreath mouthwash. If you would be buying multiple bottles for a large household, I would skip it too.

I already have a pretty big supply of TheraBreath mouth wash after buying it for this blog post. I won’t be needing to buy more anytime soon. However, I would continue to purchase it. I use half of the recommended amount making one bottle last me longer than 23 days. Plus, my husband doesn’t know about TheraBreath, meaning I don’t have to buy multiple bottles a month.
