Who Are Liz Cambage Parents

Liz Cambage has experienced an unprecedented downfall in her WNBA career. The 6’9 center was considered one of the most dominant players in the league at one point, recording historic numbers during her time in the WNBA. However, in just a matter of years, Cambage found herself without a professional contract and an OnlyFans account. Cambage’s transition from a WNBA superstar to an OnlyFans model may be baffling. Her multiple controversies over the years have led her down a dark spiral, ending up without a WNBA contract. Several controversies of the 6’9 star have made headlines over the years.

However, the one that stands out is her actions against the Nigerian contingent in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Now, Cambage has expressed her desire to represent Nigeria in the 2024 Paris Olympics. How did Cambage make this shift? Does she have Nigerian ethnicity? Let’s find out.

Liz Cambage is of dual ethnicity

According to her WNBL profile, Liz Cambage was born on the 18th of August in 1991, in London, England. She is the child of a Nigerian father and Julia Cambage, who is Australian. It is reported that Cambage’s father, whose identity is unknown to this day, split with her mother when the 4-time WNBA All-Star was just three months old.

Julia Cambage raised the 4-time All-Star in Australia, who grew up to represent the nation at the Olympics. However, Cambage has now stated her intention to represent her father’s heritage, joining the Nigerian basketball team. Unfortunately, her transition may not be so easy. The 31-year-old shares a not-so-pleasant history with the team, being entangled in a major controversy.

One of Cambage’s most significant controversies came when she represented the Australian contingent, or Opals in a scrimmage game against Nigeria. During the game, Cambage was accused of employing racial slurs targeting the Nigerian players. Reports said that the Australian star referred to them as “monkeys” and instructed them to “go back to your third-world country.”

Since this incident, Cambage has denied the allegations, maintaining that she did not use the racial slurs. However, her controversies did not stop with the Nigerian contingent. She engaged in further controversy with her own national side, leading to further trouble.

The center has a history of controversies

Liz Cambage became a perennial All-Star in the WNBA at one point. The Australian star shattered records throughout her stint in the WNBA, also making history with a 53-point performance.

Her phenomenal effort holds the record for the most individual points scored in a single game. However, her controversies overshadowed her promising career.

Cambage got entangled in a controversy with her own nation in 2021. She had a major fallout with the Australian Olympics Committee when they showed only white players in their promotional photos for the Olympic Games in 2020. Cambage initially withdrew her name from the Opals, claiming that she did not feel represented by her nation. She then rejoined the Australian side, only to withdraw yet again, this time citing mental health issues.
