Line: group of inductees that were initiated into a chapter together

Neophyte (Neo): member who has not brought in a line, youngest member in a chapter

Prophyte: member who has brought in a line

Sands(z): greeks who were initiated during the same season and year (Spring 11)

Club: greeks who share the same number or position on a line (tre, tail, etc.)

Made: refers to the participation in an unofficial intake process

Paper: refers to the strict adherence to the official intake process

Skater: a member who is “paper,” also can refer to an individual who does not know pertinent information about their organization.

What is the relationship between Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta?

The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. They were unhappy with the priorities of AKA and decided to change the letters, write a new constitution, and essentially begin a new organization. An older member of AKA, Nellie Quander, heard about their plans and essentially told the women that they could stop all these plans and continue as members of AKA or leave the organization. All twenty-two women, including the AKA president Myra Davis Hemmings, decided to leave AKA and found Delta Sigma Theta. Founder Myra Davis Hemmings became the first President of Delta and therefore is the only woman to hold the presidency of both organizations.

What is up with the brother/sister organizations?

Although each organization has a “partner” org that we often claim, Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta are the only constitutionally bound organizations. The unofficial partners are listed below.
Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha, “Phirst Pham”
Omega Psi Phi and Delta Sigma Theta, “Coleman Love”
Kappa Alpha Psi and Sigma Gamma Rho, “Indy Love”
Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta, “Blue & White Fam, Dove Love”
These are the traditional bonds however each org has a “love” with another. For example, Deltas have “Fire & Ice” or “Pyramid Love” with Alphas and Omegas have “Puppy Love” with SGRhos

Familiarize yourself with the requirements of your desired org. You can find the requirements on the national website.
Take an active role in community service
Work on your GPA, a 3.0 or better is desirable
Get to know the chapter members
Attend their chapter events

Basic Greek Ettiquette

Always capitalize the letters of the Greek org
When listing organizations, always list them in founding order
Never speak poorly about other organizations publicly. Jokes are one thing, but there’s no need to be rude.
Aspirants should never wear the colors of their intended org to chapter events
