Who Buys Brass

Did you know you can sell your old brass for cash?? We made $35 in less than 10 mins! See how at FunCheapOrFree.com

Happy Labor Day, Freebs! Our Spending Freeze Challenge officially began yesterday. Are you playing along? In keeping with our challenge theme of saving and getting creative, I wanted to let you in on a secret we recently discovered. Did you know you can sell brass for CASH?! TRUE! Nuts, bolts, screws, bullet shells, even zippers can earn you dolla dolla billz.

When we moved into our new home we ended up with a box of random brass items – stair runner bars, screws, fancy bolt thingies (yes, that’s the technical term). We weren’t sure what to do with them and Bubba’s parent’s suggested we recycle them at a salvage metal place in Salt Lake, since they pay cash for brass. We gave it a try and it worked! It only took a few minutes and Bubba walked away with $35 cash.

Here’s what he did…

My in-laws told us about a local metal recycling facility in Salt Lake (address below). They pay $1.00/lb for solid brass, and $.70/lb for less solid brass. The whole process took right around 10 minutes MAX! It literally took him longer to park the car and walk inside than it did to cash in!

They weigh your brass then give you a receipt. You take it to the cash center on-site, show your ID and they pay you there! Easy peasy! Quick $35 in Bubba’s pocket, and less stuff junking up the garage.

The long skinny bars are the brass stair runners he turned in. This was after they weighed it, they threw it in a HUGE container of metal.

If you are local here in Utah, you could check the place we went to! (And no, this isn’t sponsored in any way.)

TIP: Get in touch with local gun ranges and ask them if you can come collect bullet casings at the end of the day. You’d get several buckets full in no time!

We are big believers in finding creative ways to earn money. It’s the small things that add up to big savings! Take a minute to look around, find what you don’t need, get creative, and turn your trash into treasure.

Happy Scrapping! (And good luck this week!)
