George H. “Butch” Buller, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family, at the age of 82. Born on November 21, 1941, in Ville Platte, LA, Butch was a kind-hearted soul who touched the lives of many through his work and his vibrant personality. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Tom Voorhies will preside over the services.
He dedicated himself to serving the elderly and children as an employee of the State of Louisiana at the Welfare Office for over 33 years. His commitment and compassion towards those in need left a lasting impact on all he encountered. Butch’s passion for helping others extended beyond his career; he was known for his generous spirit and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Butch’s passion for culinary delights shone bright in every dish he created. As a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for 58 years, he lovingly took on the role of Head cook for their annual BBQ, adding his special touch to each meal. His culinary talents extended far and wide as he ventured into cook-offs, where his team earned numerous prestigious awards for their delectable Cajun creations. Whether it was Jambalaya, sauce-picante, gumbo, or any other dish from his repertoire, Butch’s skill in the kitchen was unrivaled.

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Butch led a colorful life filled with adventure and joy. He had a remarkable talent for boxing in high school, earning multiple golden gloves and establishing himself as an unstoppable force in the ring. His education journey to McNeese State University is a testament to his resilience and determination.
In his leisure time, Butch enjoyed indulging in hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and camping. These activities brought him closer to nature and provided moments of peace and serenity that he cherished dearly.
Butch will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warm smile, cheerful demeanor, and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria Fontenot Buller; daughters, Melanie Rachal (Alvin, Jr.) and Antoinette Ortego; sons, Brian Buller and Nick Buller; brother, Dr. William “Willie” Buller and wife, Peggy; sister, Mary Agnes Callaway; grandchildren, Bridget Hebert (Todd), Tray Rachal (Amy), Brooke Stoma (Leith), Brannon Buller, Kristin Lamke (Zachary), Hunter Buller, Olivia Buller, Mason Buller and Isaac Buller, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Butch is proceeded in death by his parents, George Herbert Buller, Sr., and Agnes Couret Buller and brother, James F. “Heavy” Buller.
At the family’s request, a visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
