This recap of the Netflix K-Drama series The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 12 contains spoilers, including an open discussion of the ending of The Uncanny Counter Season 2.

Without too much fanfare, The Uncanny Counter Season 2 finale provided a nice ending for its audience and wrapped up a solid season. It was good to see Ju-seok got a chance to live as himself again, and the final fight between the Counters and Pil-gwang’s spirit did deliver.

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Ending Explained

What happens to Pil-gwang’s evil spirit?

During their final clash with Ju-seok, the Counters pin back their foe so So Mun can enter his mind, hoping it’ll allow Pil-gwang to be summoned. However, this only makes the former firefighter more powerful, and as such the heroes all find themselves subdued.

Fortunately, though, when all starts to look bleak for the Counters, a tear from So Mun brings out the true Ju-seok. Quickly acting upon the realization that he is back in control of his own body, the former firefighter rushes to impale himself, harming Pil-gwang in the process.

In turn, So Mun seizes an opportunity too. He summons Pil-gwang, removing the evil spirit from within Ju-seok, just as the rest of the Counters begin to regroup (they’d fortunately paused the self-destruct button in the nick of time).

What happens to Ju-seok at the end of The Uncanny Counter Season 2?

Following on from convincing Ju-seok to “stay strong and live,” So Mun wakes up, alongside the former firefighter. Then, Ju-seok’s memories from his time being possessed are erased, and Mo-tak notes their friend’s crimes “could be mitigated” if Pil-gwang’s misdemeanors are investigated.

While Pil-gwang is properly sent away by Wi-gen, Ju-seok gets a chance to see his mother before being taken in by the police. Elsewhere, the Counters celebrate their fellow heroes being rescued from the evil spirits that consumed them.

During a penitentiary visit, So Mun reminds Ju-seok he’ll be there for him. Then, the former firefighter gets to see Min-ji in his dream (So Mun had earlier convinced Wi-gen to allow this to happen), where he receives plenty of encouragement and is told to think of her to get through tough moments.

What happens during So Mun’s time abroad?

With the well-wishes of his friends, So Mun prepares to go abroad to train other Counters. However, his allies can’t drop him off at the airport, as Jeok-bong smells an evil spirit needing urgent attention.

Now, we move to six months in the future. Here, Ha-na is reintroduced to Do-hwi (who attempts to politely advertise his piano academy), Mo-tak continues to do police work alongside his job as a Counter, and Mae-ok gets a chance to celebrate Jae-youl passing his GED exam.

As it’s established So Mun’s grandmother now enjoys Jeok-bong’s company, we see through Mun’s time in Germany that Wi-gen is able to be reunited with Jade.

Then, to end the episode and season, the Counters (alongside the returning So Mun) deal with one more group of evil spirits.
