Mia’s birthday rager turned out to be more eventful than she and her crew could have imagined in Everything Now’s first season.

All the secrets came spilling out in fine fashion, most notably Mia’s feelings for Carli.

When finally left alone together for more than five minutes, Mia (Sophie Wilde) and Carli (Jessie Mae Alonzo) ended up expressing their crush for one another in the most anticipated kiss all season.

Things went left of field however when they were interrupted by Carli’s boyfriend and Mia’s best friend Cam (Harry Cadby), who then exposed their tongue-tussle to Mia’s girlfriend Alison (The Witcher’s Niamh McCormack).

Their betrayal caused an even bigger rift between Cam and Mia, given that he had asked Mia to seek out Carli to help him get to the bottom of his and Carli’s romantic issues (guess he wasn’t counting on it being a Mia-sized problem).

A feud erupted between the two, which caused Mia to leave the party and later relapse, making for a tense penultimate episode.

Whether Mia can get back on track is determined in the finale of Everything Now – but what happened?

In the final episode, Mia learned some devastating news at Dr Nell’s office: her friend Jenna passed away having fallen victim to her eating disorder.

After returning home from the appointment, Mia dodged her 11am snack which triggered her worried mother Viv (The Sandman’s Vivian Acheampong) to begin snooping around in her room.

There she found a pile of tupperware boxes containing uneaten lunches.

Viv decided to confront Mia immediately but this, along with the news about Jenna, was compounded by her breakdown of friendships. It was too much for Mia to cope with so she bolted.

While Mia ended up convincing Carli to ditch work for a day of fun with her, Viv turned to Mia’s friend Becca (Lauryn Ajufo), who at the time was conveniently volunteering with the rest of the group of friends at an old people’s home.

Will (Noah Thomas) offered to hold the fort while ex-lovers-turned-friends (with unresolved feelings for one another) Cam and Becca went searching for Mia.

Meanwhile, things were going great for Mia who was ticking off her ‘f**k-it list’ side-by-side with the girl of her dreams. That was until her mega crush bought her a small portion of chips from a nearby burger van.

The thought of eating sent Mia into panic mode. Mia began to spiral and Carli’s attempt to reason with her only resulted in a fight where she revealed the truth of what happened to Jenna and the fear over her own fate.

Thankfully, Carli managed to convince her to go back to Dr Nell (Stephen Fry).

During Mia’s talk with Nell, she was finally able to unburden herself of her worst fears by opening up to him, something she had never really been able to do.

He commended her for doing so and helped her to acknowledge that this was a huge step forward for her.

As he explained it, her disorder thrives on secrecy and by sharing her true feelings about Jenna’s death, asking for help and being honest, she was making strides forward and changing despite how she might have felt.

The word spread that she was safe and well, after which she was reunited with her family who she apologised to.

Mia went home with her mother and brother while her father, estranged from the family, got into the car with the woman he was now seeing. In the messiest of all twists, it turned out to be Jenna’s mother, but no-one seems to know right now so we guess they’re saving that drama for season two.

The show rounded off with a few more confessions. Will made up with his boyfriend Theo after revealing that he belittled their relationship earlier because he was scared of his deep feelings for him.

Becca also let slip that she ditched her boyfriend after Cam told her that he wanted to be with her.

While they may have exchanged hopeful looks over what this could mean for their future as a couple, there’s no telling how Becca will feel once she learns that he hooked up with Alison after confessing his feelings for Becca.

Mia found Carli and apologised for her breakdown but when she suggested they could make it work, Mia was forced to accept that Carli wasn’t ready for their relationship.

Though upset, Mia took the news fairly well and went on to make amends with Cam and the rest of her friends.

Mia ended her round of apologies with Alison (sort of). She sent a crushed Alison a letter expressing her regret, but there appeared to be no room in her heart for forgiveness just yet as the letter went straight into the bin.

The finale ended with Mia making a new ‘f**k-it list’ jointly with her friends, giving them something to look forward to in the future.

Things do indeed look brighter, with the final scene closing on Mia eating a sandwich. Not loving it, not even considering it a win, but knowing that this sandwich and her efforts are enough.
