Who Got Off On Dancing With The Stars

Fair City actor Shane Quigley Murphy and Laura Nolan were left “gutted” as they became the third couple to be eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.

The pair showed their vulnerable side with their rumba to Sam Smith’s version of How Will I Know? scoring 19 points.

But it wasn’t enough to secure their place to next week’s dedication week on the show as Shane and Laura received the lowest amounts of votes and were sent home.

Shane said: “It’s not good but it was a wonderful opportunity to be part of the show. It wasn’t to be.

Laura said she was gutted to be leaving.

“I’m so proud. You were double jobbing through this whole thing. It’s been an absolute pleasure.”

Earlier in the night, judge Loraine Barry said of their dance: “I felt you got a little bit lost with that vulnerability… I needed you to step up and shine more.”

Brian Redmond said: “I probably agree a little more with Loraine. Rumba is all about relationships.. I wanted you to be that leading man for her.

Good news, this was the first week you didn’t make any mistakes.” But he said he needed to show a little bit more confidence when dancing with Laura.

And Arthur Gourounlian added: “Rumba is not an easy dance because you have to be in control..”

Scoring 20 points from judges Loraine Barry, Arthur Gourounlian and Brian Redmond, the pair kicked off the show.

Loraine said: “I love to see a dance and you clearly danced the foxtrot here! You had flight… but the landings were a bit bumpy”.

Brian said: “The footwork was perfect on your feather step. The arms were a little bit dance by numbers. Your respect in terms of technique for your feet is to be commended…. but not quite the full package yet.”

Arthur added: “You are very dashing and you embraced every single move. It was a different side to you and it was refreshing. It was a nice American Smooth.”

Laura Fox’s performance hit the mark this week with her sexy samba with pro dance partner Denys Samson, putting her at the top of the leaderboard.

The couple danced to Échame La Culpa by Luis Fonsi and Demi Lovato, scoring 27 points.

Loraine said: “It is definitely carnival time tonight! You were shimming, you were shaking, the hips were pumping… the Samba vibes were pulsating through your whole body.”

Brian said: “Most people struggle to get a sense of what the Samba is like… there is a unique group of people who actually dance Samba as if it was the way they were born to move. For a girl from Galway, that looked like you were born in Brazil. For a week five Samba it doesn’t get much better.”

Laura and Denys danced the Samba on Sunday, scoring the joint-highest tally of the season with 27 points

Arthur added: “I am in love with this outfit! The song, the performance… it was hot, hot, hot! Your Samba hip and foot were spot on.

“You came out with vengeance. That attitude was perfect for this dance. You left me thirsty for more.”

Wild Youth singer David Whelan and Salome Chachua gave it their all in a Cha cha cha to Lil Boo Thang by Paul Russell.

But it wasn’t enough for the judges who said it wasn’t up to David’s standards so far in the competition.

Scoring 24 points, Loraine said: “I will certainly reward you for your musical interpretation, your leg action… but I am going to go with Brian.

“You need to get the foot pressure into the feet and release the hips.” But she said it was entertaining.

Brian said: “I find myself asking this question is there any dance this guy can’t do brilliantly. And yeah, it’s cha-cha. The choreography was there but I felt at times it got a little bit high.

“You set such a standard that I find myself judging you against your standard.” Arthur added: “I couldn’t take my eyes off you. You were smashing it.”

Former newsreader Eileen Dunne and Robert Rowiński got their Jive on to Let’s Twist Again by Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers.

Scoring 17 points, Loraine said: “You twisted it for the nation tonight. My father loved to do the twist.”Brian said: “Overall really good but a little it less twisting and a little bit more jiving…

Arthur added: “Each week you bring such joy and happiness… but it got a little bit slow for me but I enjoyed it.”

Rosanna Davison set pulses racing as she scored 26 points with her pro dance partner Stephen Vincent dancing a Charleston to Caro Emerald Dr. Wanna Do.

Loraine said: “You were in the character of the dance – the swivels, the kicks, the slides! This was a roaring success.”

Brian said: “Well if that’s what private medical insurance gets you – sign me up! When you danced in week one, I didn’t think you would be capable of anything like that. That was by far the best you have danced. That was a Charleston to get the pulses racing!”

Arthur added: “You wouldn’t normally be my type – but with this outfit, I have a fever! You ate it up. That was an over the top performance and you were dominating the dance floor. Week one was Miss Perfect, week five was Miss FUN!

Drag Queen Blu Hydrangea and Simone Arena hoped to leave a permanent mark on the judges as they danced Contemporary Ballroom to Eurovision Queen Loreen’s Tattoo.

Blu suffered a wardrobe malfunction when their mic was exposed while the pair were dancing.

But Blu and Simone carried on and left judges impressed with their stripped back performance. Simone said it was “exceptional” that she was able to carry on.

Loraine said: “I just love to see a dance and you showed us the Tango… tonight it was more intense. There was lots of drama, if I could ask for one more thing, let that spine bend. I want more drama than that.”

Brian said: “It needed a little more flexibility… but in terms of a Contemporary Ballroom with a Tango feel that was a really, really good effort.”

Arthur added: “It was so stripped back and the vulnerability was here. It paid off – it was absolutely here. It was brutal but beautiful.”

Despite the wardrobe malfunction, Blu and Simone scored 25 points. Jason Smyth and Karen Byrne danced a Salsa to Olly Murs “Don’t Stop Dancing”, scoring 18 points.

Loraine said: “It looked like you enjoyed it, but at the same time it is a difficult dance to do. If you miss one beat you are playing catch up and you missed a beat. It was a great job well done.”

Brian said: “This was definitely a Salsa that had all the bells, but was missing some of the whistles. The power just meant Jason was throwing in some extra steps… it became a bit manic in places for me. You just need to control it a little.”

Arthur added: “Guess what, compared to last week I saw some hip and bum action tonight. The lifts were great, but overall I think you got a little bit overwhelmed. Are you the king of Salsa, but you did your best.”

Last to take to the dance floor were presenter Katja Mia and Ervinas Merfeldas who danced a Viennese Waltz to Avril Lavigne Keep Holding On.

Katja revealed during the VT that she received vile abuse from an online troll during the week, who told her she was “too heavy to dance”.

Loraine hit back at the online trolls, saying: “I’d like to send a message out to those who need to hear this. I’m a world champion and I have the credentials to say this.

“Katja is a beautiful dancer and all ladies and men, whatever shape and size, they have a right to dance.

“If you have a problem with that, it is your problem.”

Scoring her dance, Loraine said: “You put your heart into this. The feet, I just want you to be aware of them… just making it very very clean.”

Brian said: “You have been the Latin queen for the last few weeks and I am so glad you haven’t let your Ballroom standards slip.

“The only thing missing… I wanted you to take bigger steps. You are definitely continuing to blossom.”

Arthur added: “Tonight you were blooming in the ballroom. Your frame was very very strong. It was very amazing to see the soft and gentle side. This dance was stunning inside and out, just like you.” They scored 23 points.
