Hey, Friends! This past weekend we went to stay with my in-laws for a few days. While we were there my husband helped his step Dad clean the garage.. fun times, ha! They had this old Foldgers coffee tin in the garbage pile so I had to snatch it up! After thinking on it for a day or two I knew exactly what to do with it! Since Christmas is coming, I’ve decided to turn it into a can of Who Hash and it turned out adorable! Let me show you how to make one of your own:

Materials:

  • Old can ( Be creative! You can make these as big or as small as you want! I think that one of the holiday popcorn tins may even work for this project.)
  • Brown flat or satin spray paint
  • vaseline
  • Red Chalk paint ( I used the color crimson in waverly)
  • Stain
  • Brown paper ( You can find this on amazon or at about any craft store)
  • Printer
  • Mod Podge
  • paint brushes
  • old rag
  • gloves
  • Twine
  • bell
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

How To:

Step 1: Clean up the can you are using and give it 1-2 coats of brown spray paint. If you need two coats be sure it is dry before adding the second coat. Also, make sure to be extra cautious of any sharp edges on the can. If I see a sharp edge I run a bead of hot glut around it.

Step 2: Once the can is dry, add a Vaseline anywhere you want “rust” to show through. I try to focus on the edges and a few spots in the middle.

Step 3: Paint over the entire can with the crimson chalk paint. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Wipe the can off with an old rag and all your “rust” spots should now be showing through. If you want to apply a second coat of chalk paint, then make sure to add another layer of Vaseline in the spots you want to “rust”. You can then add a second coat of paint, allow to dry, and wipe off. You should now have a rusty looking tin can.

Step 4: Print out Who Hash on the brown paper and rip around the edges. You can dress this up in any font you’d like! I also added some “ingredients” under my can of who hash. I just looked up some who hash recipes and through some of those ingredients in, lol. I actually had no clue there was a recipe for who has.. did you?

Step 5: Wearing gloves, dip an old rag into some stain. Rub the majority of the stain off and then rub it onto The Who hash paper. Try to get it a little darker around the edges.

Step 6: Mod Podge the back of the who hash paper and stick it directly on the can. Make sure to center it the best you can. Allow to dry. You can use a blow dryer to help speed up this process.

Step 7: To finish this project I added some twine to the top of the can. I tied the twine in a really simple bow and added a bell. I then added some greenery to the can along with some spanish moss.

If you decide to make this DIY I’d love to hear from ya! You can drop a comment below or message me on any of my social media pages. Hope you have a blessed weekend and as always remember to keep it simple. Catch ya next week my friends! Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, youtube
