Kawika Kaita surprised Smith with the proposal at a romantic dinner in Todos Santos, Mexico during their summer travels. The couple spent time in Dayton, Ohio with Candace’s friends and family before taking off for their Mexico getaway.
Candace met Kawika, born and raised in Waimanalo, Hawaii, while filming “Hawaii Five-0” four years ago. They dated long distance for almost two years; Kawika spending a month at a time in Los Angeles and vice versa. After starring in her first action film, “My Father Die”, produced by Pierce Brosnan, Smith decided to make the sacrifice and move to Hawaii for love. During this time, she focused on her iTunes podcast, “Love By Candace”, coaching clients and writing her memoir.
When EUR/Electronic Urban Report last spoke with Smith about her podcast, she explained what she hoped women gained from her weekly show.

“I care most deeply about women. I’m very passionate when it comes to the empowerment of women, supporting other women, curing a lot of the disease that women carry within themselves, usually stemming from a lack of self-love that creates this insecurity and toxic energy towards other women. When women can’t be loving towards one another there’s something very deep-rooted there,” she said.
“I have a lot of single women that come to me and they want coaching and they want me to find the love. They want me to find them a partner and the reality is, they’re issues in their life that needs to be addressed and most times it goes back to a lack of self-love and where they get their affirmation from. I truly believe it’s important for women to feel empowered, to love themselves more than anybody else and to be constantly nurturing aspects of themselves mentally, spiritually and physically — and the right love will come at that point. That’s my message for women.”

While based in Hawaii, Smith continues to appear as a love expert on several networks including E! Entertainment, USA Network, Bravo TV and WE tv. As an actress, her most recent comedy, “The Wrong Missy” with David Spade and Roman Reigns will be released on Netflix at the end of the year. She also appears along side Jake Gyllenhaal in “End of Watch” as well as Rosario Dawson in “Gimme Shelter”.
Candace has refocused on her acting as she continues to make progress with her book. The couple split their time between Honolulu and Los Angeles with no plans yet on the wedding destination. Smith is currently filming ABC’s holiday movie, “Same Time, Next Christmas” as the sister to actor Charles Michael Davis; both from Dayton, Ohio. The movie stars Lea Michelle, who will be releasing a holiday album along with the film.
