Kitchen queen Catherine returns with a special show revealing how to whip up a little romance at home for February 14.

And the glamorous chef joked that she’s counting on husband Claudio tuning in to Catherine Celebrates on RTÉ tomorrow to pick up a few tips.

“I have dropped so many hints they’ve nearly broken the tiles in the kitchen,” laughs Catherine. “Claudio is grand [at cooking] – I think his mother would have been the strong cook in the house so he was able to sit back and be fed.

“He calls himself an ‘assembly chef’ – he literally assembles things.

“But my two kids are actually getting really interested in cooking, so I’d be confident that I’d be served up a very nice Valentine’s dinner and I’d live to tell the tale.

“I think there’s a lot of fantastic men cooking at home,” she adds. “I’ve seen that on social media and they’re just amazing.”

Grilled Dublin Bay prawns and a white chocolate strawberry custard cream pot are just two of the drool-worthy dishes viewers can learn to perfect as restaurants across the country remain closed.

But the bedroom is the only place where things should be getting hot and sweaty on February 14, according to the popular food writer.

“Literally dining in is the new dining out because we’ve no choice,” says Catherine, who runs Ballyknocken House and Cookery School in Wicklow. “It’s a good idea just to have one or two items, maximum, left to cook for Valentine’s dinner so get ahead.

“You don’t want to be at the hob for the whole of your Valentine’s dinner so have some things ready, and especially dessert, so that once the main course is served you can relax into it and just sit back and watch your favourite romantic movie.”

Mum-of-two Catherine is set to spend Valentine’s Day locked down with her Sicilian hubby of 24 years and their children Charlotte (18) and Rowan (17), who are currently studying at home.

And the author said she’s happy to make the traditionally couples-focused holiday a more family-oriented occasion after the heartbreaking loss of her dad, Charlie, last September.

“It was a bit of a shock for us all, I have to say,” she tells. “We weren’t expecting it.

“He was a farmer and he was just out tying a gate and we found him – he just slipped down to the ground and passed away quietly. He was 86, but he’s still your dad; my mam died at 56. You’ve only two parents – it doesn’t matter what age they are.”
