SE Cupp biography and career with CNN and MSNBC
The television host was born Sarah Elizabeth Cupple on February 23, 1979 in Carlsbad, California. Growing up, she spent some period of her teenage years in Massachusetts where she enrolled at Notre Dame Academy. Cupp started taking ballet lessons when she joined a ballet school at the age of six. She recalls suffering from eating disorders during this time, including a relapse during her college years.
SE Cupp was college educated at Cornell University. While here she worked for The Cornell Daily Sun. Graduated in 2000, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in art history.

After Cornell University, she got a job at an online magazine, then at a PR firm. Cupp then rose through the ranks in 2002 when she was brought in by The New York Times to handle writing and editing for their index department. She then went on to pursue her master’s degree at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University. Cupp graduated in 2010 with a master’s degree in religious studies.
In 2009, she was hired as a columnist for the Daily News. SE Cupp also contributes to Politico.com, and his writing has appeared in several publications such as City Hall, Maxim, Slate, The Washington Post, and more.
Two years after she was brought in by the Daily News, she moved on as a writer and columnist for Glenn Beck’s Mercury Radio Arts. Just over a week later, SE Cupp, a known atheist, told the show that she didn’t think it was right for an atheist president to lead the United States. His assumption was that atheists made up only 10-15% of the country’s population, with the rest subscribing to different faiths.
As a member of the right – the Republican Party – SE Cupp is also part of a group called the Log Cabin Republicans, supporters of LGBT and pro-same-sex marriage. The self-styled “mainstream conservative” has come out against several lobbyists and politicians for getting their take on certain issues. She notably spoke out against Ron Paul’s views on foreign policy and the Federal Reserve.

While working at MSNBC, Cupp was scheduled to appear at a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) sometime in 2013. However, she announced in March that she would not be appearing at the conference. Cupp said she became uncomfortable with the fact that the event marginalized “mainstream conservatives” like her. After withdrawing from the conference, she joined the Young Conservatives of the Freedom to Marry movement.
SE Cupp joined CNN when the network announced in June 2013 that she would join their relaunched Crossfire debate program in fall 2013. Sarah Cupp hosted the show alongside Newt Gingrich, Van Jones and Stephanie Cutter . She last appeared on MSNBC ‘s The Cycle a day after CNN’s ad aired.
