Swifties the hour is upon us! Taylor Swift officially rereleased Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on July 7. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is the third album Swift has added to her recordings roster, and is particularly special because Swift has stated she wrote the entire album herself after critics doubted her songwriting skills. Every Swfitie knows that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is filled with absolute bangers like “Mine,” “Better than Revenge,” and “Dear John.” But perhaps the most exciting part of any TS re-reecording is the release of her “From the Vault” tracks. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) features six never before heard “From the Vault” tracks. The first of these tracks is “Electric Touch” featuring Fall Out Boy. Check out “Electric Touch (Taylor’s Version)” below if you haven’t yet and keep scrolling for a full breakdown of the lyrics.

[Verse 1: Taylor Swift]Just breathe, just relax, it’ll be okayJust an hour ’til your car’s in the drivewayJust the first time ever hangin’ out with you tonightI’ve got my money on things goin’ badlyGot a history of stories ending sadlyStill hoping that the fire won’t burn meJust one time, just one time

Taylor uses the first verse set the scene. She reassures herself that a potential new love is coming to pick her up for a date. It’s the first time they are hanging out and she is equal parts nervous and excited for the date. However, she sings about her worries getting the best of her. She’s afraid that the relationship will end badly and is afraid to open her heart to a new romantic possibility.
[Chorus: Taylor Swift]All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to lifeGot a feelin’ your electric touch could fill this ghost town up with lifeAnd I want you now, wanna need you foreverIn the heat of your electric touch, mmm
Taylor is guarded when it comes to this new relationship. She is hopeful that it will work out but knows there is a chance that she could end up with a broken heart. Here she sings about her potential new beau’s “electric touch.” It’s something she wants but is also acutely aware could burn her if she gets too close. This isn’t the first time Taylor has referred to a lover lighting up a small town either. She talks about how her “town was a wasteland” in “Midnight Rain” on Midnights and how “this ain’t Hollywood, this is a small town” on “White Horse” on Fearless.
[Verse 2: Patrick Stump,Taylor Swift & Patrick Stump]I’ve been left in the rain lost and piningI’m tryin’ hard not to look like I’m trying’Cause every time I tried hard for love, it fell apart (Woah)I’ve gotten used to no one callin’ my phoneI’ve grown accustomed to sleepin’ aloneStill, I know that all it takes is to get it rightJust one time, just one time

If there is one thing about Taylor Swift, she loves a good rainstorm. Taylor uses this verse to explain more about why she is afraid to get caught up in a relationship, referencing pining in the rain and waiting by the phone. Having been hurt before, Taylor reminisces on all the times her love life has fallen apart. She sings about how she’s tried so hard to make relationships work to no avail. However, there is a level of hope in this verse as well, with Taylor ending with the idea that she only needs to get love right once. The contrast between her uncertainty about a new relationship and her desire to open herself up is just one of the reasons Taylor is such a good storyteller. [Chorus: Taylor Swift & Patrick Stump]
[Bridge: Taylor Swift, Patrick Stump]I was thinking just one time (Just one time)Maybe the stars align (Just one time)And maybe I call you mineAnd you won’t need spaceOr string me along while you decideAnd just one time (Just one time)Maybe the moment’s right (The moment’s right)It’s 8:05 and I see two headlights
Taylor uses this verse to expand on how hopeful she feels about the new relationship. Maybe this one will work out, she hopes. She mentions seeing two headlights referencing her earlier line in Verse 1 about waiting for her new love’s car to pull into the driveway symbolizing that she is done waiting and that she can start a new relationship.
[Chorus: Both, Taylor Swift, Patrick Stump]
