With 8.1 million followers on Instagram, Hoodville is one of the most popular meme accounts on the platform. Yet, despite their popularity, Hoodville’s real identity is kept under wraps. However, there are those who believe they know who he – for people believe it is a he – really is.

One year ago, in the unofficial Instagram subreddit, user r/DaBooch425 asked the community if anyone knew the name of the person who runs the Hoodville account.

And Reddit delivered, after a fashion. His personal account, one user commented, is @thirdeye_fam. He apparently “got caught not too long ago”. Other users reported having “proof” that it was him.

But in recent times, those checking back on the forum – remember, the original post is from more than a year ago – “can’t find the account”.

The account with the above username no longer exists. “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed”, reads a placeholder.

Having apparently given up the ghost, several comments from as far back as three months ago attached various joke names to the online persona. Examples include “Mike Rotch” (haha) and “Moe Lester”, the discomforting nickname of Succession’s Lester McClintock.

But some of the ‘real life’ Hoodville’s posts have been archived

Pixwox calls itself an “Instagram profile, post, story viewer and downloader”. Essentially, it archives Instagram posts so that, even if the original account no longer exists, its photos remain available to view.

Does the Hoodville face reveal really hold water?

Clicking on the images downloaded and archived on Pixwox automatically leads to the archive of a different Instagram account: @gerry.

The @gerry Instagram account still exists. It has 15.1K followers, at the time of writing, but only 10 posts. Each of the posts matches one of those Pixwox has archived as belonging to @thirdeye_fam, the alleged real identity of Hoodville.

There are those who claim to have known who Hoodville is for some time.

“Bruh I been following Hoodville’s actual account for a minute now”, wrote one user on Gerry’s most recent Instagram upload. “Y’all late.”

But it could just as easily be a team of people

Meanwhile, on the aforementioned Reddit forum, one user’s comment from a year ago rings just as true now as it did then.

“At 15 or so 10/10 posts a day”, they wrote, “I think at this point he at least has a small team.” Assembling so much social media gold would be too time-consuming, runs the argument, for one person to be responsible for all of Hoodville’s content.

“But I hope Reddit can break this open so I can see who this funny *ss guy is.”

For what it’s worth, the Observer once interviewed the individual behind the Instagram account Daquan, who at the time had 8.6 million followers. Daquan said: “In regards to content, I do everything by myself. I know my audience best.”

So it’s not inconceivable that Hoodville, who may or not be Gerry, whose real identity may or may not really be known, could indeed be a single person.
