After choosing Duke University against all odds to pursue his career, Jon Scheyer found the love of his life there. In Marcelle Provencial, Duke coach found his supporter who attended Duke University School of Medicine and then became a registered nurse. While Marcelle currently works at the Women’s Wellness Clinic in Durham, North Carolina, Jon Scheyer is playing the headman of Blue Devils.
Scheyer has experienced both sides of the NCAA Tournament, having gone through it as a Duke basketball player, Mike Krzyzewski’s assistant coach, and now the head coach of the Blue Devils. Scheyer is still committed to seeing the Blue Devils win, even in the face of harsh criticism and tremendous pressure.

Jon Scheyer: a loving family man
After their fairytale love story, Jon, 36, and Marcelle, 37, got married on May 6, 2017. At that time, Jon was a fourth-year assistant coach for Duke’s basketball team. They are parents to three children: thr youngest son, James Russell, was born in May 2022; their daughter, Noa Marie, was born in January 2018; and the eldest boy, Jett, was born in August 2019.

When speaking about her adaptation to Jon’s athletic world, his wife said, “I did not grow up in a sports family. So, the whole sports world was new to me. But Jon and I have been together for … we met in 2010, so it seems like a long time to get adjusted to this world.”
Marcelle Provencial stands like a rock behind her man. She’s often seen supporting Jon through his long basketball journey.

From athletic passion to gruesome charge in hand

At the age of three, Scheyer began dribbling the ball, and by nine, he participated in his first AAU national competition. After being named an All-American in high school, he led the Duke Blue Devils to the 2010 NCAA Basketball Championship as their captain. Later on, on June 2, 2021, following Mike Krzyzewski’s retirement announcement, Scheyer was introduced as Duke’s new head coach.
He made an immediate impression after taking over as head coach in April 2022, winning the ACC tournament in his first year. Even with injuries and team disruption, Scheyer’s recruiting skills and leadership have shown great promise.
At Duke, he’s establishing an incredible pace for success, handling the difficult responsibility of taking over for a renowned coach with poise and dedication.
