We don’t often hear from actor Jonathan Frakes on his relationship with General Hospital icon, Genie Francis (Laura Collins). However, Frakes shared some details at their enduring and successful 38-year marriage, while chatting it up about his new Hallmark movie, A Biltmore Christmas.
The new holiday movie drops this Sunday, November 26th at 8pm ET/7pm PT, and not only does it star Frakes, but another familiar face to daytime soap fans in Betheny Joy Lenz (ex-Michelle Bauer Santos on Guiding Light).

Jonathan spoke with PEOPLE about how he met Genie Francis. He explained: “I met my wife, the wonderful Genie Francis, on a show called Bare Essence, which was the last of the nighttime soaps – and she was too young for me!”
That miniseries, Bare Essence debuted in 1983 and eventually became a weekly TV series. At that time in her life, Francis was nabbing primetime roles after becoming soap-famous and met Frakes when she was only 20.
As luck and fate would have it. when Bare Essence go the pink slip, the two were cast again in the limited series North and South in 1985 and that would seal the deal. Frakes explained: “So we were on location in Charleston and Natchez, and we fell in love – and now, somehow, she wasn’t too young for me. So we have been together ever since our first date on North and South when we took a break for Memorial Day and went to New Orleans 38 years ago.”

While Francis is legendary as Laura on GH, Frakes is legendary with Star Trek fanatics for his role as Commander Will Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation and more recently Star Trek: Picard. The couple have two children and Frakes shares that their daughter Eliza is an actor and writer as well.
In his latest role in A Biltmore Christmas, Frakes said he followed in Genie’s footsteps to the Hallmark Channel family: “My wife has done a number of these movies. This brand is quite amazing, and I’m always looking for another outlet. I’ve been blessed with this Star Trek thing for 36 years, so to be part of a new franchise is kind of a treat for me.”
