Who Is Jordan Schultz

Nearly one year after being hired by theScore, Jordan Schultz has a new gig. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Schultz announced that he is joining Bleacher Report, where he will serve as an NFL insider.

“I am thrilled to announce that I am joining @BleacherReport as their new NFL Insider!” Schultz wrote. “BR is a phenomenal brand that I have admired for years, and its coverage is synonymous with bringing you the best sports media. I will continue to do what I love most: Breaking news, reporting stories, and covering the NFL while highlighting and empowering the players. I am excited for this new journey and can’t wait to get started.”

Schultz’s rise through the sports media landscape has been somewhat unconventional. The son of former Starbucks CEO and Seattle SuperSonics owner Howard Schultz’s resume includes stops at NBC Sports, Sirius XM, Yahoo, ESPN and the Score.

While Schultz is certainly well connected — he breaks news via his social media platform on a regular basis — he’s also more player friendly than a lot of the NFL insiders with more traditional journalism backgrounds. From 2019-2021, he co-hosted the Pull Up podcast with NBA star C.J. McCollum, while most of his time at ESPN was spent doing work for Kevin Durant’s The Boardroom.

Recently, Schultz found himself involved in a not-very-serious media beef over his report that the NFL would be giving away Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelets at the New York Jets game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.

It will be interesting to see how Schultz fits into Bleacher Report’s seemingly ever evolving strategy. The Turner-owned website hasn’t typically been known for breaking news, so much as its aggregation and analysis in recent years.

Considering that Schultz had already been appearing in videos on the platform prior to the announcement of his hiring, one would expect that trend will continue. It will also be worth monitoring whether Bleacher Report makes similar moves in other leagues, or even opts to tap into Schultz’s NBA background.
