Who Is K In Bad And Crazy

If you are starting to watch the relatively new K-Drama Bad and Crazy, or you have just seen the trailer, you might’ve been wondering about the mysterious biker called K, played by the talented Wi Ha-Joon. Who exactly is he and what is his role in the series? More importantly, is K real?

Believe it or not, K is actually not real. In fact, K is Ryu Sool-Yeol, or rather his split personality. After a certain event that happened to Ryu in his childhood, K appeared to protect him from those memories. Later on, he served as a constant reminder to Ryo that he should not look the other way when he encounters injustice.

If this is something you find interesting, stay with us and keep reading while we take a deeper dive into the series and take a look at the relationship between Ryu and K.

Is K in Bad and Crazy real?

At the beginning of the show we saw Ryu Sool-Yeol involved in a couple of shady deals, essentially powerful people asking him to look in the other direction if he finds anything suspicious. He would do this so that he could get the promotion that he wanted.

After his questionable ethical decisions, he started to have encounters with a mysterious biker. For some time he thought that he is being followed by an assassin, sent by someone who is out to get him. This was not the case, instead, when he would mention his encounters to his colleagues, it almost sounded like a made-up story.

Since nobody had seen this biker, Ryu wondered how is that even possible. While everyone around him tried to convince him that this person attacking him does not exist, he decided to investigate further. In every case he would arrive at a dead-end, no record of this person was found.

In fact, a bizarre incident with which we start off the show is when Ryu found his car ruined, it seemed as though someone had intentionally left broken mirrors and dents in the car. When he asked the manager of the garage to see the footage, he was surprised to see himself destroying his own car.

These were some of the first hints that Ryu had a split personality disorder. After some time, his investigation he realized that he was in fact, K. This happened after he went out to find the evidence for the case he was working on at the time. He later found K’s jacket and helmet in his safe, which only confirmed his beliefs.

What caused Ryu Sool-yeol’s condition?

This is a much more complicated topic, and if you are not up to speed with the show, there will be some spoilers ahead. Split personalities are usually the result of a really traumatic event happening in a person’s life. The new personality takes on a role of a protector and hides away the negative memories.

Something which unfortunately happened to Ryu, before he was adopted by his current family. After Ryu started to remember his past, he saw the younger version of himself standing over his father’s dead body, who had multiple stab wounds. Which led Ryu into thinking he did that to his father.

During that time, K was trying to stop Ryu from looking at their past memories. Visually it felt like both of them were in a never-ending hallway and with every room they entered a different memory.

Is there a romance in Bad and Crazy?

Alongside the main plot line that focuses on Ryu and K, there is a romantic relationship between Ryu and his co-worker Han Ji-Eun. At the beginning of the show, we find out that the two of them used to be in a relationship but had for unknown reasons broken up. There are a lot of old feelings lingering between the two, and as the show progresses they definitely get closer again.

What genre is Bad and Crazy?

If you were wondering if this series might be for you, and whether or not you would like it based on the genre it’s a part of. The show is definitely a mix of a couple of genres, for example, we can say based on how it is generally presented and the topics it deals with that it has elements of drama.

The seriousness of some topics it covers, like for example corruption and personal ethics. With that said, some of the topics are handled in a comedic way, like the nature of Ryu’s split personality, it is not mocked in any way but it is definitely not taken completely seriously.

The nature of the setting, which is filled with criminal activities and trying to expose them, alongside a lot of gruesome scenes, would also fall into the category of a thriller. Finally, we can say that with the elements of investigation that is a type of mystery and detective genre as well.
