Background
Les Stroud was born on October 20, 1961, in Etobicoke, Toronto, Canada. Before becoming a media personality, Stroud was a guide for Black Feather Wilderness Adventures, where his responsibility was to lead canoe excursions into the Northern Ontario wilderness.
Marriage, Wife, and Children
Les Stroud met his wife while working on something he was passionate about. On one of his survivor courses, he met his wife, Sue Jamison, who was a photographer for the course. They got married in 1994 and had their honeymoon in a remote Wabakimi area in Ontario. They had two children together named Raylan and Logan.

The couple attempted to live a life similar to that of humans in the prehistoric era. Their primary food source was wild rice, squash, bear fat, and maple sugar that they had stored. After filming their archaic lifestyle, Stroud developed a documentary titled ‘Snowshoes and Solitude’, which won the award for Best Documentary at the Muskoka Film Festival.
After trying to experience the primitive times in Wabakimi, they moved to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. There, Stroud was employed and given the responsibility of catering to the unique needs of those descended from Aboriginals. The couple then settled in Huntsville, Ontario, where they continued to operate an outdoor instructional outfit called Wilderness Voice and a media company called Wilderness Spirit Productions.
Les and Sue separated in 2008. They did not publicly announce the end of their marriage. He wrote on his blog about the separation and stated that he was no longer married. It was a difficult separation, and he was focusing on his career and writing to take his mind off the failed relationship. He said in his blog that he wanted to spend more time with his children.

Survivorman is a Canadian-based television program that follows the survival techniques and knowledge used by survival expert Les Stroud to help him survive alone for approximately ten days without the accompaniment of a production crew. If you have watched the first Survivorman episodes on Discovery before the one made by Bear Grylls, you would know Les Stroud.
Before his fame from Survivorman, Stroud produced two one-hour special episodes of himself living alone in the wilderness. The popularity of these episodes led to the creation of Survivorman. In addition to his expertise in survival skills, Les demonstrated his capabilities in buying and remodeling an old farmhouse in a special show called Off the Grid with Les Stroud. He was seen installing solar and wind power methods, as well as techniques for water storage, such as rainwater collection. Stroud has also worked on various other survival-based programs on The Outdoor Life Network, The Science Channel, and YTV.
Stroud is also known to be a professional musician. He is an exceptional harmonica player, and his debut CD features top-notch acoustic pieces that reflect the idea of freedom. In collaboration with a Canadian rock band called ‘The Northern Spikes,’ they have performed various live shows and even released an EP under Les Stroud and the Pikes.
