My job is writing about and adding perspective to local stories, and I am honored to be able to do that. You may not think this column is “local,” but hang with me for a couple of paragraphs. See if you can identify with my frustrations, which should include persons not only locally but around the entire wonderful USA.
If I have to watch and endure one more “Martha” television commercial trying to get me to buy a Medicare Advantage health policy, I’m going to take my autographed Patrick Mahomes football and launch it into my 55-inch color TV. The elderly woman portraying Martha is accomplished in her acting skills, but too much Martha is beginning to affect my outlook on life — and not in a good way.

Since we are still a ways away from the Dec. 7 deadline for changing Medicare prescription plans, unfortunately, I anticipate Martha’s hideous voice and overly feisty attitude will again be reappearing, thus aggravating my favorite television shows but at least giving me a good opportunity for bathroom breaks.

“Martha” commercials, sometimes replaced by a repeat of also boring Joe Nameth still hawking Medicare Advantage, have gone far past the point of getting under my skin. They have engrained both skin and bones, which is why the Mahomes football and TV are in mortal danger.
Speaking of commercials, why is it that people on TV must sing and dance when they successfully take medicine for skin disease or to buy out their life insurance policy? A couple of commercials for those products put far more viewing time into Broadway-style dancing and singing than telling us why what they are trying to sell actually works or is medically sound.
Among the most dangerous and disgusting 60 seconds of airtime is currently being spent on showing why grannies and other past-their-prime senior citizens should subscribe to TikTok, which is primarily used by young people.

The Chinese-owned propaganda-disguising social media giant continues threatening millions of our youth, along with others who can’t seemingly get along without their daily — no, hourly — perhaps minute-by-minute dose of outlandish and sometimes dangerous images.
If you haven’t seen it, TikTok is running national television ads showing senior citizens dancing in their nursing homes as one of their young nurses demonstrates exercise routines. Harmless enough, you say, but in reality aimed at convincing persons old enough that they should know better to become TikTok subscribers, where they will be introduced to a sneaky variety of political and social views or persuasions.
I’m all for seniors enjoying their surroundings, and God bless those who exercise and have fun with their friends. But that can easily be done without TikTok, which in my estimation is a genuine threat to the values and virtues most of us hold precious to America. TikTok is a real danger to the United States because of how China is working to destroy us and rule the world.
