The famed Townhall Magazine contributor began his exciting career in Rockingham, North Carolina. She wrote for the Richmond County Daily Journal, a North Carolina-based newspaper published by Heartland Publications. She then began writing for The Washington Examiner while working as an editor and columnist for the politically conservative Townhall.com website. Not content with just writing, Mary Katharine Ham created a series of video blogs on YouTube which she called “HamNation.”

Mary was expecting their second child when her husband, Jake Brewer, tragically lost his life on September 20, 2015 following injuries from a bicycle accident. He had gone on a bike ride to help people living with cancer in Howard County, Maryland. He allegedly lost control of his bicycle and was hit by a vehicle as he tried to take a curve. His death was so felt that condolences flooded Twitter and even drew one from the White House.
