December is fast-approaching and the various streaming services are busy dishing out their slate of festive films to help get fans in the Christmas spirit.
Apple TV+ has joined in this year with its latest effort, Spirited, an inventive and musical re-telling of A Christmas Carol with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell leading the star-studded cast.

However, despite the film’s cheeky and humorous adaptation of Charles Dickens’s work, Spirited also takes a moment to pause for reflection as it pays loving tribute to Michael Gagnon.

Spirited pays touching tribute to Michael Gagnon
Following a humorous romp of a Christmas movie and several toe-tapping musical numbers, Spirited takes a moment to pay tribute to a much-loved member of its film crew.
After the film treats fans to a reprise of That Christmas Morning Feelin’ over its first set of credits, a heartfelt title card appears on screen that features the message:

Spirited’s tribute explained
Michael Gagnon was a truck driver who appears in the credits as Spirited’s Transportation Co-Captain.
As his obituary on EverLoved.com explains, Gagnon was born on June 23, 1972, and lived in Watertown, a city located in the Greater Boston area, which is where Spirited was filmed.
Gagnon tragically passed away on September 22, 2021, at the age of just 49.
His death came during Spirited’s production schedule which took place between July and October of that year.

Michael is survived by his loving partner Melanie Guarino, four children – Danielle, Katie, Amanda and Christopher, five grandchildren and his siblings Paul and Brian.
A private funeral service for Michael took place in St Patrick’s Parish on September 27, 2021.
Michael Gagnon’s other work in the film industry
As well as working on Spirited, Michael Gagnon is credited as a driver on two more films, namely 2012’s Ted and the 2021 Netflix film Don’t Look Up.
Both movies were filmed in and around Boston where Gagnon and his family were based.

Spirited is available to stream now on Apple TV+ after releasing on November 18, 2022.
