Kanye West is a hip hop artist from the city of Chicago, Illinois, most popular for his album Graduation, with nearly five billion streams across 14 songs according to spotify.com. Taylor Swift, on the other hand, is a pop artist from West Reading, Pennsylvania, and is most popular for her album 1989, with 7.8 billion streams across 10 songs, according to spotify.com. Both of these artists have a strong following, and they both have put lots of time into their songs and albums, which reflects in the number of views they get.

Out of the students who were interviewed, some of them wanted to share their opinions, both for Taylor Swift and Kanye West. Many people have their own opinions about each artist, so it’s important to hear from both fanbases.

Sophomore Beckett Casey states, “I like Kanye West because his lyrics have a deep connection to his life. When I started listening to Kanye West, I got into shape and got healthier.”

Casey mentioned how Kanye West’s music changed his body and made him healthier, which he also attributes to playing high school sports and going into his freshman year of high school.

Senior Kelly Aspras, a “certified Swiftie,” says, “I wouldn’t spend $1,000 on a ticket to her concert, but I will blast her music down the highway.”

Aspras is referring to the price for a seat on Taylor Swift’s most recent tour, the Eras tour, which many find absurd. It’s important to remember that fans come in all shapes and sizes, all with different price points. All that makes someone a fan is that they enjoy the music.

While both of these artists make popular works, and have incredible fanbases, the surveyed students at Foran widely prefer Taylor Swift. With Kanye West having a total of 59 votes and Taylor Swift with a total of 78 votes, many Foran students prefer Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift is a very popular artist, and her songs are what hit home with the students at Joseph A. Foran High School.
