‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers speculate that it seemed like the writers wrapped up the Pikeman storyline at the end of today’s episode. John Brennan (Charles Mesure) and Roman Hume (Mark Engelhardt) were carted off to prison.

But is it over, and if so, what does it mean? We all thought that maybe there was more brewing at Kelly’s than the coffee. Then they introduced the dashing Aussie charmer who came into Carly Spencer’s (Laura Wright) orbit.

Maybe we were wrong. The Pikeman storyline started almost exactly a year ago with an offer from Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to move shipments of classified merchandise through Port Charles.
The mysterious Pikeman Security Group was apparently not to be messed with. They made it perfectly clear that if Sonny refused, he would make a formidable enemy.

Sonny reluctantly agreed after Brick (Stephen A. Smith) did some investigating. Since that point, Sonny and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) were targeted at the Metro Court, Anna was tormented, and finally, in a brilliant twist, Sonny set up the nanny from hell, Betty Rutherford (Ella Lentini).
Recently, we met John Brennan at Kelly’s. He turned out to be the head of Pikeman and the WSB. This connection revealed that former WSB agent Jameson Forsyth had been killed to set up Anna for his murder.
Brennan was very flirtatious with Carly, and it looked as if their rapport might spark a storyline between them. The two of them had impeccable chemistry.

However, today, our hopes were thwarted. The Pikeman story may be over, at least for now. Anna and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) figured out the man in the picture was John Brennan, and it took them only a matter of days to wrap up a story that had been building up for about a year with no real payoff.

The two of them were on the pier discussing their next move when Hume appeared. He started shooting at Dante and Anna, and they knocked him out and cuffed him. Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) showed up and, realizing that Brennan would go after Carly, led them to Kelly’s.
Carly hit Brennan in the head with a tray, and that’s when Dante, Anna, and Sam burst into Kelly’s with their guns and instructed Brennan to get his hands in the air.
That was pretty much the end of it. The whole thing was a letdown, as it seemed to be going somewhere, but it ended abruptly without much of a climax.
Perhaps the whole point of the storyline was to give Anna yet another reason not to trust Valentin; maybe it was so Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) would get caught in the crossfire, or maybe, just perhaps, it was to introduce unimportant characters that went nowhere, like Betty, the nanny.
Whatever the case, it certainly wasn’t to give Carly an interesting new relationship to explore. Unless the writers have another trick up their sleeves, Brennan may go down like many other characters who were never seen or heard from again.
