Snapdragon Stadium will host the Holiday Bowl in 2024. The football game will not return to Petco Park in December.
2023 Holiday Bowl
The 2023 Holiday Bowl NCAA football game took place in San Diego at the Padres Petco Park on December 27, 2023. In the Holiday Bowl matchup between the Southern California Trojans and No. 16 Louisville Cardinals, USC bid farewell to the Pac-12 Conference with an impressive 42-28 victory. Quarterback Miller Moss, making his first college start in place of Caleb Williams, threw a record-setting six touchdown passes and 372 passing yards, connecting with receivers such as Tahj Washington and Ja’Kobi Lane. The victory marked the end of a challenging season for the Trojans, who had lost three straight games and five of six coming into the Holiday Bowl.

Holiday Bowl History in San Diego
The Holiday Bowl is a staple of the NCAA Division 1 college football post-season, and San Diego is proud to be its host city since its inception in 1978. This will be the second Holiday Bowls played at Petco Park under an agreement that will make the Padres ballpark the venue for a minimum of five years. The addition of bleachers in right field and standing room areas will increase capacity to nearly 50,000 people.
The first Holiday Bowl was played on December 22, 1978 at San Diego Stadium. The game featured BYU and Navy, with Navy defeating BYU 23-16.

Modifications and renovations to accommodate the game include temporarily removing the wall on the first base side, adding 2,800 square feet of concrete seating risers, clearing the bullpen door and stairs and installing football goal posts, play clocks and additional camera locations.

Record: Coach: Lincoln RileyBowl History: USC is making its fourth trip to the Holiday Bowl. They played in back-to-back games in 2014-15, beating Nebraska and losing to Wisconsin. They lost to Iowa in the 2019 game, which was the last event at SDCCU Stadium.Player To Watch: Quarterback Caleb Williams, a Heisman Trophy winner, may not play in the game. Backup would be Miller Moss.

The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PST. Gates open at 3.

KGB Sky Show
Great news if you love a good sky show. The KGB SkyShow is back again and becoming a local tradition. Many look forward to the iconic fireworks show as much as the game itself.
Beginning in 1976, with fireworks set off from Fiesta Island and Chollas Lake, the SkyShow evolved to an elaborate production, with some 5,000 fireworks shells launched, computer synchronized to music. The Skyshow was not held in 2020 or 2021. The 5th SkyShow will take place in 2023 at Petco Park. “Our fans are in for quite a night!” promised producer Sports San Diego.
Holiday Bowl Parade
The annual Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade takes place before the game at 10AM, rain or shine. It is free to watch anywhere along the parade route. No tickets required. See marching bands, floats, balloons and more. More parade info.
