Madison Beer released the music video for her ballad “Reckless” on Tuesday (June 29th), which she co-directed with Amber Park, and it might just be the cure to her heartbreak and ours.
The fairy-tale-gone-wrong aesthetic gives life to the powerful lyrics that talk about a lover’s betrayal, after his promises of love. The emotional song describes just how overwhelmingly intense loving someone is and the risks of it. “Reckless was written about how easy it is for some people in relationships to hurt others and move on without any guilt. People have so much power over their partner’s feelings, yet many still choose to treat each other carelessly,” explained Madison.

The impressive visuals of the video prove that Beer’s talents go beyond singing, possessing a strong sense of storytelling and the ability to create aesthetic music videos that reflect her songs.
Drawing inspiration from classic children’s books, the music video theme came to Beer’s mind while writing the lyrics: “I had this vision of a humongous book, and that was the theme for the whole thing. Wonderland, fairy-tale visual of me being super tiny on this huge book. And then we let the story unfold” said Madison on a Livestream “I wanted the world for ‘Reckless’ to feel both disorienting and familiar, like a nightmare where nothing is what it seems and there’s no way out. Those are exactly the emotions I’ve gone through in relationships that have turned sour.”

With lyrics like “Somebody saw you with her last night/You gave me your word, ‘Don’t worry ’bout her’/You might love her now, but you loved me first/ Said you’d never hurt me, but here we are / Oh, you swore on every star / How could you be so reckless with my heart?” the song reflects the sometimes harsh reality of dating. We are not saying that all guys are like that but the ones we’ve met… ouch!
We hope the rising-pop singer finds the Disney-kind-of-love that she deserves, with a prince charming that won’t break her heart anymore, but at least we know that if he does she will write something beautiful out of it. “Reckless” is now available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
