ANDOVER, Mass. —

Emergency dispatchers heard shouting and gunshots over a 911 call from a Massachusetts home earlier this month, a new statement reveals. When officers arrived at the Andover home, they found a father had killed his wife and son before turning the gun on himself.

That 911 call was placed at 3:09 a.m. on Feb. 9, from the Robinson family’s home at 48 Porter Rd., according to a summary of findings that was provided by the Essex District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators now believe Andrew Robinson, 56, placed the call, the DA’s office said. His son, 12-year-old Sebastian Robinson, was heard shouting in the background of the call.

“The voices on the call were difficult to understand, but loud smashing sounds could be heard, and officers were dispatched to the home at 3:10 a.m.,” the report states.

When the first officers arrived at 3:18 a.m., they knocked on the front door. No one answered.

“When they went to the rear of the home, they looked through a sliding-glass door and observed a woman with apparent injuries, lying on the floor. They decided to make a forced entry at that time,” the report states.

Inside, they found Andrew Robinson in the family room with a gun. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Officers also found Sebastian Robinson, 12, in the kitchen and Linda Robinson, 55, in the hallway. Both had been shot and killed.

The report from the DA’s office said that investigators found a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun in the house. The weapon was legally purchased and properly registered to Andrew Robinson, although his license to carry had expired on Feb. 1, 2023.

Investigators believe Andrew Robinson pulled the trigger in each of the deadly shootings.

“Investigators have learned through conversations with family and friends that Andrew Robinson was depressed and having trouble sleeping, and was seeking treatment for physical and mental health issues from medical professionals in the area. He also had been prescribed medication for his conditions,” the DA’s report said.

“While we can never know everything going on inside someone’s home or mind, we’re absolutely clear domestic violence can’t be tolerated for any reason, and that there’s a mental health crisis in our country,” District Attorney Paul Tucker said in a statement. “Our office works daily to address each problem, and I urge those in need – and those who care about them – to reach out to us, the state government and outside groups for support. No one should feel alone as they cope with these problems.”

“Unfortunately, we will never have all the answers of why this horrendous incident occurred. However, some of the ‘why’ has been answered, and we hope it provides some closure for the extended family and everyone else affected,” said Andover police Chief Patrick Keefe.
