Who Makes Coolife Luggage

Coolife is an affordable luggage brand that’s become quite popular in the last few years. Their suitcases are very well-reviewed, but people aren’t sure whether they’re a good choice or not.

In this Coolife luggage review, we’ll tell you everything about them and compare them to similar luggage brands. We’ll take a look at their durability, customer reviews, prices, features, and warranty – all to determine whether they’re worth it or not.

Coolife luggage rating explained in detail

On CleverJourney’s Best Luggage Brands, Coolife got 75 points. This places the brand in 9th place on our leaderboard. However, Coolife took first place in the affordable range, followed by American Tourister and It Luggage.

Here you can see how we determined the 75 points. We’ll go into more detail on each category further down in the review.

The Good

  • Well-reviewed. Coolife’s suitcases are reviewed between 4.3-4.8 stars, which is really impressive. No other affordable luggage brand even comes close to how good their reviews are. Even medium-class brands like Traveler’s Choice and Delsey are barely up to par with Coolife considering their reviews.
  • Durable enough for most people. If you’re planning on flying moderately (less than five times per year), then you can expect Coolife’s luggage to last at least 3-5 years, which is pretty good for an affordable suitcase. Most suitcases from other similar brands tend to last for less than 15 trips.
  • Affordable. Currently, Coolife is one of the cheapest options on the market. When considering how decently they’re reviewed and what features they come with, we think that they’re a really solid choice and an excellent value for your money.
  • Packed with useful features. Usually, bags this cheap come with fewer features. Coolife has TSA locks and expandable zippers even in their most inexpensive options and offers zipperless options and suitcases with laptop compartments.
  • Professional Designs. Every suitcase from Coolife has a professional and minimalistic design. Unlike most other similarly-priced brands, Coolife’s designs are down to earth, with many of them being as good as medium-class or even high-end brands.

The Bad

  • Their warranty is essentially useless. Out of all the brands we’ve reviewed, Coolife has the worst warranty out there, alongside Rockland. If you’re getting them, you shouldn’t count on the warranty if anything goes wrong. Just get a new suitcase instead.
  • Not made for frequent travel. You really can’t expect a $50 suitcase to be durable enough for frequent travel. People who’ve been using Coolife regularly (every month or so) have said that things start to fall apart pretty quickly.

The Verdict

Let’s start with why you shouldn’t choose Coolife. If you’re planning on using a suitcase frequently, it should be exceptionally durable and come with an excellent warranty in case something goes wrong. Unfortunately, Coolife’s warranty is pretty much useless, and its suitcases aren’t built from the most robust materials. A wiser choice for frequent travelers would be Travelpro or Briggs & Riley.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for something cheap, we think that Coolife is the best option on the market. Their suitcases are durable enough for people who go on vacations just a few times per year; they’re incredibly affordable, well-reviewed, and come with some nice features.

So if you need a suitcase but don’t have the capital to invest in something that will last for decades, Coolife is probably your best bet.

Key Facts About Coolife

Coolife is a Chinese luggage manufacturer. Although their website says that they’ve been operating since 1999, most of their products on Amazon were published in 2015-2016, and their domain was registered in 2017, which means that they’re only a few years old as a company.

If you wish to get in touch with Coolife, the best option is through Amazon. Otherwise, you can contact them via email or mail. If you live in the US, you can also reach Coolife’s support team by phone (their phone number is +1-725-333-1966).

We also checked other retailers, and it seems that they’re selling their suitcases on Walmart, Luggage Factory, as well as Amazon. It looks like they started to sell their suitcases a few years back on Amazon, got successful, and now they’re trying to build a legit brand around them.

Although they seem kind of sketchy (more on that below), all of their suitcases have been rated exceptionally well. They’re not remarkably durable, but they’re cheap, good-looking, and come with useful features. For a cheap bag that’ll last for a few years, they’re probably the best choice right now.

Reviews (24/30)

On average, Coolife’s suitcases secured a rating of 4.3-4.8 out of five, which is really impressive. Out of all the affordable luggage brands, we haven’t seen any other brand that has been reviewed just as well. The only ones that come close are Rockland and Merax. And what’s even better, their reviews are consistent between all of their suitcase models. Some luggage brands only have a few good models, and the rest have clear design or durability flaws, but that’s not the case with Coolife because we couldn’t find any poorly reviewed models.

But there’s a pretty significant reason why their customer reviews are so good. You see, all of their suitcases ship with a little card that tells their new customers to leave a review on Amazon to extend their warranty by one year or to get a gift card. And this means that a lot of new customers who haven’t really used their suitcases for too long leave positive reviews in the first few weeks.

If they didn’t do this, their products would probably be reviewed more poorly. Normally, we would rate their reviews at 28 or 29 points. However, we had to drop that to 24 because their customers are strongly incited to leave positive reviews. This doesn’t mean that Coolife doesn’t offer great luggage, but it’s sketchy that they want customers to leave positive reviews without even using their bags for a long time.

Here are the most common comments that people had about Coolife’s luggage:

  • Their carry-on’s are slightly larger than the most common size restriction for airlines – 22 x 14 x 9 inches
  • The product descriptions are often inaccurate
  • On rare occasions, TSA-approved locks ship with no instructions.
  • Sometimes the handles, zippers, wheels will break, or a crack/dent will appear in the hard shell
  • In real life, their hardshell bags look even better than in pictures
  • Overall, most people were happy with their purchases

Quality (14/20)

It’s probably not shocking to hear that Coolife isn’t the most durable luggage brand out there. A Chinese brand that sells dirt-cheap suitcases isn’t particularly the best combo for durability. However, when we researched what materials they’re made from, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that most of their hardside bags are made from a mixture of ABS and polycarbonate. And that wasn’t the only surprise that Coolife’s luggage had in store for us.

On the 4-piece Jacquard set, they’ve used Jacquard Oxford cloth, which is a slight improvement from regular polyester. It’s made from 100% polyester, but it’s woven in a different pattern that makes it slightly more durable. And for the Coolife Luggage Aluminium Frame the shell is made from aluminum, which is a lot more durable than regular ABS.

Between all the positive reviews, there also were quite a few bad ones. People complained about broken spinner wheels and zippers, bent or broken handles, and cracks/dents in the hard shell. But these issues are to be expected when you opt for cheaper luggage.

If you’re looking for a suitcase for frequent flying that will last you for many years, you should look at other brands, like Travelpro or Briggs & Riley. But if you’re looking for a cheap bag that will last several years of infrequent travel, Coolife is a rock-solid choice, as it has taken first place in the affordable range, right after American Tourister.

Features (13/15)

Even though Coolife suitcases are really affordable, they’re packed with quite a few features that don’t usually come with similarly-priced suitcases from other brands. And on their premium models, they’ve implemented a few other innovative features, like zipperless openings and dedicated pockets for laptops.

Although they’re not the most innovative and progressive brand, they’re far from being the most stagnant one. For instance, brands like Rockland, which is priced similarly, don’t offer most of the features that Coolife does.

TSA-Approved Locks on Most Suitcases

Coolife offers TSA locks on just about any suitcase, even fabric ones. TSA-approved locks are usually present in bags that are over $100, so it’s nice to see that Coolife is adding them to affordable options.

If you don’t know what TSA-approved locks are, essentially, they’re combination locks for the main compartment with a slight twist. Nobody else will be able to open the lock, except the TSA security agents, in case they need to inspect the bag while it’s checked in. If a suitcase is locked with a regular lock, the TSA agents are allowed to break the locks and zippers for further inspection without repaying you the damages.

Double Spinner Wheels

Although not all of their models come with double wheels, most do. Instead of the regular four wheels, you get eight. They’re better because they’re more durable and roll smoother, thus making the suitcase much easier to maneuver around.

Laptop Organizer Compartments

The Coolife Laptop Hardside collection comes with a dedicated front pocket for organizing your electronics. Although the specs say that it’ll fit only up to 13-inch laptops, customers said that they managed to fit in 15-inch laptops as well without any difficulties.

The laptop compartment is useful because it allows you to quickly access your laptop, tablet, documents, and other essentials. Be it at the security, at the airport, or a cafe on your way to the hotel, having your essential things within a hand’s reach is vital, especially for tech-savvy people who travel with a lot of gadgets.

Zipperless Luggage

Fifty years ago, all suitcases were zipperless. Instead of using the zipper, the suitcases could be opened by unlocking two clips, but that quickly changed in the seventies, when the rolling suitcase was invented.

If you didn’t already know, essentially every zipper can be opened by poking through a sharp object, bursting the zipper open. And the worst part is that afterward, the zipper can be closed normally, without any traces that it was open before. Unlawful security agents and baggage handlers have used this ‘trick’ for decades to steal valuables out of checked suitcases, but having a zipperless suitcase eliminates this risk.

Basic Packing Options

Unfortunately, Coolife’s suitcases only come with essential packing options. Usually, the main compartment is divided into two equal parts, both divided by a fabric sheet, and inside you’ll find one or two zippered pockets and compression straps.

If they’d make a suitcase with better packing options (suiter compartments, TSA-approved toiletry pouches, more organizer compartments, laundry bags, etc.), we’re confident that people would be more interested.

So, taking all of these features into account, we can safely say that Coolife deserves a rating of 13 out of 15 points in the Features category.

Design (12/15)

We think that Coolife’s suitcases are pretty good-looking. They’re modern, colorful, and sleek. They’ve got quite a few options for men and women, and people say that their bags usually look even better in real life. Although the color selection could be better, they’ve got enough to choose from – usually, their models come in 3-6 different colors (except for their most popular luggage set, which is available in 17 different colors).

There are quite a few affordable luggage brands that look cheap, but Coolife doesn’t, which is why we’ve given them 12 out of 15 points in the Design category.

Warranty (2/10)

This is where we stop preaching about Coolife. If you’re getting one of Coolife’s suitcases, the warranty is essentially useless. On their website and Amazon, they’ve only got a short description of the warranty terms which are written in a fairly vague language, and they don’t have clear instructions on what you should do.

But here’s a summary of everything that we could gather.

Coolife’s Warranty Terms

  • They only cover manufacturing defects
  • The warranty is valid for two years. You’ll get an additional year if you leave a positive review on Amazon
  • Transportation damages, normal wear and tear, accidents, and misuse aren’t covered by the warranty
  • If you need to file a warranty claim, you should contact them through Amazon
  • Shipping fees to and from the warranty aren’t covered
  • There’s still a chance that they’ll replace your suitcase or send a partial refund, but most people said that their warranty claims were unsuccessful

Although most affordable brands don’t come with solid warranties, Coolife’s is particularly bad. If your Coolife luggage breaks, it’s probably easier to just purchase a new suitcase instead of dealing with their support. But in our opinion, that’s not a huge deal-breaker because their quality is decent, and they’re priced ridiculously cheaply.

Price (10/10)

Out of all the affordable luggage brands, Coolife is one of the cheapest ones.

Here’s what you can expect to pay:

  • Softside carry-on: $50-90.
  • Hardside carry-on: $50-100.
  • Luggage set: $130-300.

In fact, when you also take their durability, features, and reviews into consideration, we believe that they’re currently the best choice in the affordable range, which is why we’ve given them the maximum rating of ten points in the “Price” category.

How Does Coolife Compare to Other Luggage Brands?

Coolife is the best affordable luggage brand on the market. Some aspects of Coolife are much better than the competition, while others are on par with brands like American Tourister and It Luggage. So, let’s delve deeper into how Coolife compares to other brands.

For starters, Coolife is the most well-reviewed brand in the affordable range, and it even manages to be ranked similarly to brands like Ricardo Beverly Hills and Delsey, which offer luggage in the medium price range. The only similarly-priced luggage brands that come close to Coolife’s reviews are Merax and American Tourister, with Coolife still ranking higher than both of them. Another great thing about Coolife is that its luggage offers great value for your money. Rockland is the only other brand that offers such great value, but Coolife is significantly better in almost every other aspect compared to Rockland.

The only aspect that Rockland and Coolife have a similar rating is their warranty. Both brands offer farcical warranty terms, making them rank below every other brand in the affordable range when it comes to their warranty.

But, Coolife is one step above nearly every other brand when it comes to features. SwissGear and Lucas are the only similarly-priced brands whose luggage has as many features as Coolife’s. Coolife also ranks highly when it comes to durability, with every other affordable brand ranking below it. That being said, Coolife’s luggage designs ranked in parallel to most other brands.

So, Coolife is your best bet if you want an affordable suitcase or luggage set. Not only does Coolife’s luggage last for a long time if you travel for leisure, but it also comes with some features that are rarely present for such low prices.

The Coolife Luggage Expandable Suitcase series, particularly the M(24in) model, offers a blend of durability, security, and convenience, with its hard plastic shell and TSA lock. While the 28″ model is expandable, the entire series is designed for efficient packing and ease of movement.

The comparison with the Coolife Zipperless Polycarbonate 20-Inch Carry-On highlights Coolife’s commitment to providing affordable yet quality luggage solutions, though the durability of larger sizes under heavy weight conditions might be a concern. Overall, this product stands out for its high customer ratings and features that cater to both casual and frequent travelers.

Best Affordable Carry-On: Coolife Luggage Suitcase PC+ABS with TSA Lock Spinner

The Coolife Luggage Suitcase in grey S(20in) is a compact and robust travel companion, suitable for short trips and designed to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers. The use of ABS+PC material strikes a balance between durability and lightness, making it an efficient choice for regular travelers. The expandability feature of the 28in model is a significant advantage for those needing extra space. However, it’s important to note that this feature is only available in the largest size. The ergonomic design of the telescoping handle and the silent, multi-directional wheels contribute to a hassle-free travel experience, emphasizing mobility and ease of use.

Security is another vital aspect of this luggage, with the TSA lock ensuring that your belongings remain secure while also complying with airport security requirements. The 2-year worldwide warranty adds an extra layer of confidence for the buyer, ensuring support and assistance across the globe.

Coolife Luggage Aluminium Frame Suitcase TSA Lock 100%

This Luxury Aluminum Frame Luggage is a high-end travel accessory that combines aesthetics with functionality. Its robust construction using premium materials ensures longevity and resilience, especially beneficial for frequent travelers.

The thoughtful design, including protective bumper corners and an advanced TSA lock system, enhances both the durability and security of the luggage. The interior is well-equipped for efficient packing and organization, making travel more convenient and stress-free.

Additionally, the warranty and storage options add value, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a blend of luxury, practicality, and durability in their travel luggage.

Best 3-Piece Hardside Luggage Set: Coolife 3-Piece Polycarbonate and ABS Luggage Set

This 3-piece luggage set by Coolife is one of the main reasons it gained 10/10 on the “Price” category. Not often can you purchase a 3-piece set for the price of a medium-priced carry-on. Not to mention that this set is often on sale for under $200, making it one of the most affordable 3-piece hardside luggage sets on the market. The set comes in five different colors.

When we saw the price tag on this set, we were convinced that it was made purely from ABS. So, we were pleasantly surprised when we saw that it’s actually made from a mix of polycarbonate and ABS, thus adding a lot of points to its durability. Speaking of durability, some customers complained about the durability of the retractable handles, saying that they broke after 1-2 trips. Thankfully, each bag comes with side and top handles.

Everything else is similar to all other Coolife luggage, with TSA locks, spacious main compartments, and mesh pockets being present on each bag. This set, however, features the so-called “Silent spinner wheels”, which are supposedly extremely quiet. Their durability is great, according to most customers, so that’s a definite plus.

Overall, this 3-piece luggage set is a fantastic option. You could get the Rockland Melbourne hardside 3-piece set at the same price point, which isn’t nearly as durable, making the Coolife 3-piece luggage set the best value for your money.

Best 4-Piece Luggage Set: Coolife 4-Piece ABS Luggage Set

Not only is this 4-piece hardside luggage set one of the cheapest on Amazon, but it’s also one of the best-rated. People seem to like everything about it.

That said, we still found a few people who complained about the quality. Some reported that the zippers failed when the bags were overpacked, some had broken wheels, and some got cracks in the hard shell. But, when you’re getting a 4-piece luggage set for less than $200, some defects should be expected.

Because it’s so cheap, the hard shell is made out of ABS, which is more inexpensive and less durable than polycarbonate or polypropylene. But every suitcase has reinforced corners for additional protection, which is nice. It might not add a significant amount of durability, but it’s better than nothing.

Some people complained that the product title is deceiving. Only the largest suitcase is expandable, not all four, which is something that you should keep in mind. This luggage set also comes with double spinner wheels and TSA-approved locks on all four suitcases, which is pretty impressive considering how affordable they are.

Another cool thing is that all four pieces fit inside each other, making them easier to store when not used. Also, all pieces are pretty lightweight because they’re made from ABS, which is great for keeping up with the weight restrictions in checked bags and carry-ons.

There’s probably no better alternative to this set if you’re looking for a cheap hardside luggage set. It’s exceptionally well-rated, durable enough for most people, dirt-cheap, and comes with TSA-approved locks on all four suitcases. That being said, if you’re looking for an equally great 4-piece soft-side luggage set, then the American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT is your best bet.

Best Premium Softside Luggage Set: Coolife 4-Piece Softside Luggage Set With TSA Lock

Coolife isn’t known for its softside luggage, but they offer a couple of the best softside luggage sets we’ve seen. This 4-piece luggage set is very affordable, and its durability is even better than some of Coolife’s hardside sets. This is because this set is made from a “Jacquard Oxford Cloth”, which is said to be more durable than polyester but not as durable as nylon. Speaking of which, each bag also features a nylon lining that’s mainly there for artistic purposes rather than added durability.

The set also comes with the silent wheels that are featured on the Coolife 3-piece polycarbonate and ABS luggage set we reviewed above. These are supposedly much quieter than standard spinner wheels while still being as durable as regular wheels.

This softside luggage set comes in three different colors, which isn’t the best, but it adds some color variety. Each suitcase has a top handle and a retractable handle, and the two checked suitcases also have side handles. What’s great about this set is that all three bags come with TSA-approved locks, which isn’t common in affordable softside luggage.

Overall, this set is your best bet if you want affordable softside luggage since most other affordable brands offer much less durable fabric suitcases, or they don’t offer any at all.

Best Affordable Softside Luggage Set: Coolife 4-Piece Spinner Softside Luggage Set

This 4-piece luggage set is a comprehensive and high-quality solution for travelers, marked by its use of durable 1680D oxford cloth, which enhances its resilience and sets it apart from standard luggage sets. The inclusion of variously sized suitcases makes it suitable for a range of travel needs, from brief business trips to longer vacations.

Key features like the spinner wheels and telescopic handle on each piece facilitate easy transport, crucial for navigating busy airports and hotels, while the carry-on’s compliance with IATA standards for cabin luggage ensures it meets the size requirements of most airlines, offering hassle-free travel experience. An added layer of security is provided by the built-in TSA locks on all pieces, protecting contents while allowing for seamless inspection by airport security, thereby minimizing travel delays.

Overall, this luggage set is an ideal choice for both frequent and occasional travelers, thanks to its durable materials, thoughtful design, and user-friendly features like TSA locks and spinner wheels. The 2-year worldwide warranty further enhances its appeal, assuring long-term quality and service.
