The upgraded clubhouse at the Naples, Fla. facility will have new men’s and women’s locker rooms, a new fitness studio, two golf course simulators, a private dining room, a player’s lounge with a bar, indoor and outdoor seating, new bathrooms, a banquet kitchen, an office for the food and beverage manager, and a golf shop storage area. Elvis Gooden, the club’s General Manager, COO and CFO, says the project is being done to “keep current with the needs of our members.” He adds the goal is to finish the locker rooms by September and to complete the entire project by New Year’s Eve, if not sooner.
The Club at The Strand in Naples, Fla. is undergoing a $2.4 million renovation of the lower level of its clubhouse.
“We just wanted to keep current with the needs of our members,” said Elvis Gooden, the club’s General Manager, COO and CFO. “We felt we needed to be at the forefront of all that’s happening, having been through COVID and seeing the needs of members change. . .This new space and renovation will give us that opportunity. It was a necessity.”

He added the renovation was also needed because the club has not undergone a major renovation in its 25 years of existence.
When it’s finished, the clubhouse will have new men’s and women’s locker rooms, a new fitness studio, two golf course simulators, a private dining room, a player’s lounge with a bar, indoor and outdoor seating, new bathrooms, a banquet kitchen, an office for the food and beverage manager, and a golf shop storage area.
The men’s and women’s locker rooms will each have a sauna room with seating for four to five people. The player’s lounge with a bar will have a roll-up window to provide an indoor/outdoor seating area. Indoor seating will accommodate about 70 people and the outdoor area will seat about 40 members.
“We will have seating capacity outside under cover,” Gooden said. “We’re adding an awning to keep the rain out.”

For the fitness studio, there will be a glass door that will open “accordion-style,” Gooden said.
“It will be a dedicated entry to that fitness studio, but it will also be a pass-through to get to the new player’s lounge,” he noted.
The golf course simulators will be provided by Foresight Sports and members will be able to virtually try out multiple courses, including St. Andrews, Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill.
This 9,500 square foot area previously contained men’s and women’s locker rooms, a fitness studio and a small dining area with a bar. In July, the project began with the tearing out of these elements, along with the removal of carpet, dry wall and bathrooms, Gooden said.
“It’s wall-to-wall gutted,” added Gooden, who noted new plumbing, electrical and HVAC infrastructure will also be installed.
The only part of the lower level that is not part of the project is the golf shop, which Gooden said was renovated last year and will remain open while the work occurs.

In keeping with the changing needs of its members, the dining area will increase from about 1,200 square feet to approximately 7,000 square feet, but the locker room space will be reduced. Gooden noted members do not use the locker rooms as much as they once did.
Currently, the concrete floors are being cut so that piping can be redone to connect to the locker rooms, which are being relocated to a different part of the lower level.
Gooden said the goal is to finish the locker rooms by September and to complete the entire project by New Year’s Eve, if not sooner.
Poppa Construction Inc. is serving as the construction manager, Peacock + Lewis Architects is the project architect, Cronin Engineering is handling the structural components, and D.E. Koch Interiors is coordinating design components such as furniture, fabrics, color schemes and lighting.
Gooden said the club is privately owned and noted members are not being charged an assessment for the project.
Gooden is providing regular email updates to members on what’s happening with the project.
He added the “members are excited. They’re looking forward to having that space open. . .It’s going to be really nice.”
