This month, The Moose Preserve Bar & Grill in Bloomfield Hills is celebrating its 20th anniversary, which is something owner Linda Egeland staff are proud of accomplishing. Egeland said that at times, it wasn’t easy, and many people warned her and her husband not to buy the location which she said some said was jinxed due to other restaurants failing in that location. Egeland said that they were confident in their concept and ability to execute it and never looked back after doors opened in 1990 though. Today, they own and operate four other restaurants in the metro Detroit area: Camp Ticonderoga in Troy, Deadwood Bar & Grill in Northville, Beaver Creek Tackle & Beer in Westland and The Iroquois Club Fine Banquets in Bloomfield Hills. The Moose Preserve has evolved over the years, as the customer base has changed due to area companies closing down and jobs lost. Egeland said the menu has changed accordingly. The broad menu boats high quality fresh fish and black Angus steaks along with the restaurant’s famous baked-to-order chocolate chip cookies. Egeland said they have been able take wild game mainstream by incorporating it into familiar recipes such as Buffaloaf and black bean venison chili. The Moose Preserve staff aims to be respectful and friendly to its customers and even has photos of almost 2,000 of their customer’s dogs lining the walls. After being open for 20 years, Egeland said she and her staff still consider themselves fortunate in many ways, especially that have had so many hardworking and dedicated staff members. Most notable among many, Egeland said, is Lisa O’Shea who has worked for Egeland for more than 23 years and has been the general manager at The Moose Preserve since day one. “As much as any other person or reason, Lisa has been our ‘get it done’ person who always finds a way to work things out and find a winning solution in a personal and professional way,” Egeland said. In celebration of The Moose Preserve’s 20th anniversary, customers can enjoy a free chocolate chip cookie with lunch and a variety of free appetizers through Nov. 20, along with games, contests and prizes for people of all ages.
