One of the most consistent questions we are asked is the perennial question of who was the “last sec east team to beat Alabama.” We won’t bury the lead here only to note that Alabama plays in the SEC West conference and only has to play TWO Sec East Teams in the regular season every year. However if they win the SEC West, then they are ultimately pitted against the SEC East champion. OK, let’s get to it:

In one of the more thrilling games in recent memory, Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide were outlasted in the final seconds against the surging Tennessee Volunteers. Alabama’s missed field goal attempt set the stage for Tennessee for a last-minute drive. A 40-yard field goal by Tennessee Kicker Chase McGrath (who happens to wear #40) sailed just over the crossbar as Volunteer fans stormed the field.
Last SEC East Team Before Tennessee To Beat Alabama
In a rare occurrence, one only needs to go back less than a year before the Tennessee game to find Alabama’s previous loss to an SEC East foe. After beating the University of Georgia in the SEC Championship by 17 points (41-24), UGA got revenge in the National Championship game.

Down entering the fourth quarter, the Georgia Bulldogs staged a furious comeback and sealed the victory on pick-six by Kelee Ringo with less than two minutes to play.
While we don’t like to celebrate SEC West foes here, it should be noted that Nick Saban’s record against SEC East teams has been fantastic. Before these two blemishes on the record, Saban had not lost to an SEC East team in more than a decade (including the SEC Championship). In fact for the last decade, only Auburn and LSU have been the occasional thorn in the Crimon Tides’ regular season.
It’s worth noting that Nick Saban’s overall record at Alabama is outstanding, with a 189-27 record overall record and six national championships (seven overall including his national championship as coach of the LSU tigers).
