Who Will Seattle Play In The Playoffs

The Seahawks vaulted themselves back into the playoff picture with back-to-back wins over the Eagles and Titans, but their hopes took a sizable hit with a home loss to the Steelers on Sunday.

Seattle’s defense had a hard time containing Pittsburgh’s unusually efficient offense, with Najee Harris tearing up the Seahawks’ run defense and Mason Rudolph avoiding any major mistakes.

The Seahawks woke up on Sunday with a chance to clinch a playoff berth with some help, but they certainly didn’t help themselves. Now, Week 18 looms with the stakes just as high as they were on the final weekend of the season last year.

Here’s what the Seahawks need to do to reach the playoffs, including a look at which teams Seattle fans will need to root against.

Seahawks playoff picture

The Seahawks remain the No. 7 seed in the NFC, but that will only last a few hours, barring a tie. The winner of Sunday night’s game between the Packers and Vikings will at least temporarily take over the NFC’s final wild-card spot, putting Seattle in position to need some help in Week 18.

Place Team Record WC1 Eagles 11-5 WC2 Rams 9-7 WC3 Seahawks 8-8 – Saints 8-8 – Vikings 7-8 – Packers 7-8

The Seahawks must beat the Cardinals in Week 18 to keep themselves in playoff contention, but they also will need a loss from the Packers-Vikings winner.

If Green Bay wins in Week 17, the Seahawks will need a win and a Packers loss to the Bears. If Minnesota wins in Week 17, the Seahawks will need a win and a Vikings loss to the Lions. There is no scenario in which Seattle can get in with a loss in Week 18, barring a Packers-Vikings tie.

Seahawks remaining schedule 2023

The Seahawks face the Cardinals in Week 18 needing a win and additional help to reach the playoffs.

Date Opponent Record Jan. 7 at Cardinals 4-12

The Cardinals are eliminated from contention, but their 4-12 record might be deceiving. Arizona just earned a road win over the Eagles and has largely been competitive since Kyler Murray’s return.

Seattle earned a 20-10 win over the Cardinals in October before Murray’s return, but Week 18 could be a challenge. The Seahawks have prevailed in this situation before, as they narrowly defeated the Rams in Week 18 last season and got some help from a Packers loss to clinch a playoff berth.
