Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me is one of my top ten favorite Christian songs. I was first introduced to the song around 1977 when I attended Tonya’s, a friend, church one Sunday morning. I’ve seldom heard it performed in churches I have attended over the past few years but I still listen to it on my mp3 player.

The primary theme of this warm song is that our Lord will provide our needs, both physical and spiritual, if we but put Him in the proper place of Lord and provider. Often times in our lives we seek material possessions, monetary gain, fame, power, prestige and friends; and then if there’s any time and energy left, we seek a little bit of God. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts (James 4:3). I have sometimes prayed for material things, and sometimes God has let me get them, oh did He ever let me get them all right!
I am more better off to ask the Lord for things according to His will. Those things, when granted, are what I need. You too. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him (1 John 5:14-15). When we seek His will first and put Him first, we will be content with His provisions. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Phil 4:11-13). Yet, do not think our God does not want us to have good things but I am confident He does not want us to have good things at the expense of Him being put in second, third or some further place in our priorities.

As I write I would like to ask you to remember oppressed Christians in other lands. Many of them face loss of life daily. Yet their Lord, our same Lord, supplies their needs. Do you think they pray each morning for a new car or house? It is something to ponder. To help think about this question I offer you with Psalm 121.
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Many of you have suffered through loss of health, financial hardships, family crisis and more; but think, did the Lord meet you need? Did He provide, maybe not as you had hoped, had prayed; but looking back, did He provide? I count many blessings He has given me. Will you trust Him to meet your needs, and to give you joy, peace, love? Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory (1 Peter 1:6-8).
