Kicking off at 8pm ET, this edition of Who’s Number One is loaded with an explosive undercard, the black belt no-gi debut of Tainan Dalpra, and three championship fights!

Headlining the action tonight in the main event is the long-awaited clash between WNO Champion Pedro Marinho and Rafael Lovato Jr., with fellow WNO Champions Mica Galvao and Diogo Reis defending the welterweight and featherweight belts against respectively. Mica Galvao will face off with WNO Veteran and viral MMA fighter Kody Steele, while teammate Diogo Reis will be challenged by Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira in a rematch of the -66kg ADCC South American Trials final.

Pedro Marinho (C) vs Rafael Lovato Jr | Light Heavyweight | 15 min

Marinho led the tempo in the first five minutes of a razor-thin match, scoring two takedowns and gaining the judges’ favor. Lovato determined to make a comeback kept an unrelenting pace for the latter half of the match but could not breach the defense of Marinho.

Mica Galvao (C) vs Kody Steele | Welterweight | 15 min

Both fighters feinted attacks from the start, Mica striking first with a footsweep straight into an arm-in guillotine. Favoring the guillotine, Mica countered a shot from Steele into the choke shortly after. Late in the match, Mica suplexed Kody from a front headlock into a mounted guillotine. Unlocking the choke, Mica forced his way to Steele’s back, where he found the finish.

In the post-fight interview, Mica announced that will defend his title against Nicky Ryan at WNO 22 in Costa Mesa, CA!

Diogo Reis (C) vs Diego Pato | Featherweight Championship| 15 min

Pato kicked off the action with a jumping guard pull, immediately in on a heel hook attempt. Back and forth, the pair fired off leg attacks, creatively finding entries. Several minutes in, Diogo appeared to injure his knee during a scramble and submitted, crowning Diego Pato the new WNO Featherweight Champion.

Giancarlo Bodoni vs Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa | Heavyweight | 15 min

Neither fighter was able to crack the defense of the other, Bodoni having nearly scored a takedown utilizing an arm drag and footsweep to off-balance Barbosa. Using heavy collar ties and pummeling well in overhook and underhook ties, Bodoni repelled Hulk’s shots and was able to get the win.

Luke Griffith vs Roosevelt Sousa | Heavyweight | 15 min

Sousa elected to sit to guard after exchanging heavy collar ties. Once grounded, Griffith and Sousa exchanged attacks, Sousa eagerly hunting Griffith’s legs. Sousa attempted to pull Griffith into 50/50 guard, where Griffith found heel hook exposure for the finish.

Helena Crevar vs Julia Maele | Featherweight | 15 min

In one of her biggest wins to date, Helena Crevar pulled out the kitchen sink, unleashing leg attack after leg attack on Maele. Unable to find the finish, Crevar fought her way to mount, attempting a katagatame, then transitioning to a triangle where Maele was able to escape again. Crevar then fired off a last-second Aoki lock, and Maele’s submission defense again proved itself strong.

Tainan Dalpra vs Troy Russell | Middleweight | 15 min

Putting on a beautiful display in his black belt no-gi debut, Tainan Dalpra landed a single-leg takedown straight to side control. Dominic Mejia vs Owen Jones | Featherweight | 9 min

In his WNO debut, Owen Jones’ great guard play woven together with his leg attacks and a late near-back take was enough to edge Mejia in a closely fought referee’s decision.

Estevan Martinez vs Reese LaFever | Lightweight | 9 min

After Martinez landed a single leg takedown off the whistle, a 9-minute scramble ensued. Martinez unleashed cartwheel pass attempts and flying triangles while LaFever kept calm, fighting for positional control and searching for leg attacks, finding the crucifix position several times.

Mia Funegra vs Janice Russell | Strawweight | 9 min

Navigating the intricate guard of Russell, Funegra stayed patient in her attempts at passing, met with inversions. Nick Mataya vs Ian Butler | Middleweight | 9 min
