Why Are The Football Coaches Wearing Brown

Football Coaches are wearing Brown today in the Monday Night Football match between the Chargers vs. Jets on 6 November at MetLife Stadium.

The tradition to don on camouflage dresses officially kicked off for this season from the Tennessee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game on 3 November at Acrisure Stadium as a part of a Salute to Service event on Thursday.

The team honored the active duty service members and veterans on a Thursday Night by conducting various activities including inviting a group of minority veterans for banner hanging ceremony, the Terrible Towel Twirl, and many other such events.

Almost all of the coaching staff appeared wearing brown hoodies. Various military members were also invited to raise the flag, run it through the field, and do many other activities.

The team partnered with the Veteran Leadership Program, a community service organization dedicated to serving the veterans members and their families residing in Pittsburgh and the neighborhood.

Today when the Jets will host the Chargers in East Rutherford, various coaching staff on the sideline will appear wearing the camoflague gear to honor the service of the veteran members.

They will most probably go with a camouflage-colored hoodie or sweatshirt that will go well with a military cap on the top.

As the season advances closer to Veterans Day all the participating teams will feature the military-colored gears to put on their each dedicated game.

Origin Of Camo Tradition In NFL

NFL coaches wearing brown gear began with the launch of the Salute To Service Campaign in 2011. The League partnered with USAA to incept it.

The motive of the establishment during the inception years was to honor and appreciate military veterans in a variety of ways possible.

Under this campaign, the league started to organize and conduct month-long honorary-themed games asking the teams to don on camouflage-themed gear with a prime motto of empowering, connecting, and honoring active military members, veterans, and their families.

The league partners with various organizations including the United Service Organization (USO), the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and the Pat Tillman Foundation (PTF), and raises funds to help the military war victims and their families.

As a part of the program, the league sells various military-themed gear and asks the team staff to put on such clothing on the sideline and help promote the theme.

Since the time of the inception, Week 9 to all of Week 11, the football field sidelines across the country appear brownish and camoish.

The USAA is among the boarding partners of the campaign and hosts various boot camps in various military installations across the world where the participating members have to go through drills similar to NFL Combine and scouting.

Other programs in the campaign include ribbon football, camouflage equipment for players, and more through which the collaborative teams continue to impact the lives of soldiers in many ways.
