If you are stuck on a loading screen or your screen is simply black/frozen, please try one of the following procedures:
- Run the game as “Administrator”
- Update your Operating System
- Reboot your system
- Disable non-essential processes
- Reinstall THE FINALS
Run the game as “Administrator”
Windows:
- Right-click on THE FINALS shortcut and select Properties, at the bottom
- Select the compatibility tab and check Run this program as an Administrator
- Click on Apply and OK
Update your Operating System
Outdated Operating Systems can cause many unexpected problems. Listed below are the steps necessary to update yours:
Windows:
- Select the Windows Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen
- Select the Settings icon
- Go to Updates & Security
- Select the option Check for Updates
Reboot your system (Windows)
Other software that runs in the background and overlays other programs can cause crashes to the game. The good news is that you can exit or disable these applications and open your game again.
To make sure that no other applications or software are interfering with your experience in THE FINALS, you can perform a clean boot in your Windows. Luckily, there is a very easy way to do so, which can be found right here.
Disable non-essential processes (Windows)

You can also disable every non-essential process on your computer. Simply follow these steps:
- Press Windows key + R
- Type msconfig into the text bar
- Select the Services tab
- Important: Check “Hide all Microsoft services” so you don’t accidentally disable a key process
- Click the Disable All button
- Click on the Startup tab
- Click on the Disable All button
- Click on the Apply button
- Select OK
- Restart your computer
Reinstall THE FINALS
A good old reinstallation process might just be the thing you need to cleanly run THE FINALS on your computer. In order to do so, please follow these steps:
Windows:
- Press the Windows Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen
- Select the Settings gear button
- Go to the Apps (Apps & Features) pane
- Uninstall THE FINALS
- Go to your Embark Studios folder (inside your C:) and delete the whole thing by sending it to the recycle bin. Make sure to empty your recycle bin during the process
- Then, type %localappdata% into the address bar of Windows Explorer
- If you only have THE FINALS and no other Embark Studios game installed, you can delete the entire folder. If you have more than one Embark game installed, click into the folder and delete THE FINALS folder entirely
- Restart your computer
- Redownload THE FINALS from your Steam account
- Once downloaded, right-click and select Run as Administrator and follow the prompts to install
