Anna was already a big movie star before she became Chris Pratt’s wife and was most famous for her role as Cindy Campbell in the Scary Movie film franchise.
Apparently, Chris wanted to propose to Anna the moment he met her.
“I knew I wanted to marry her pretty soon [after I met her,]” he said in an interview with PEOPLE.
“It took awhile for me to admit it, because it would be crazy to be like, ‘I want to marry you’ the first day I met her. But I could have!”
But there were obstacles in the way – mainly Anna Faris’s husband at the time, Ben Indra. When Anna left her husband at the end of filming, she and Chris immediately began dating.
They got engaged in 2008, but Anna knew that Chris was going to propose months before he popped the question, finding engagement ring on the floor of his truck by accident. Chris finally asked Anna on her birthday and they got married in 2009, in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Bali.
In August 2012, Anna gave birth to their son, Jack, and together they looked like the very picture of a happy family. Anna even tweeted a picture of Jack and Chris together with the caption, “My main men.”
“Anna and I are meant to be together,” Chris said during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit.
“Our relationship has made me believe in divine intervention and destiny, just as much as my crazy career and the way I fell into this life.”
They really did seem like the perfect couple. But sadly, the pressures of being Hollywood celebrities would soon put a strain on their relationship.
Rumours and gossip
After they got married in 2009, Chris soon landed his breakout role as Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, and soon showbiz was buzzing about this hot newcomer.
He received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for the role of Andy, and was soon starring in major Hollywood films. The real shift happened when he became a true leading man after playing Star-Lord Peter Quill in the hit Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy.
In May 2012, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child, and in August Anna gave birth to their baby boy Jack. But, in 2013, Chris became busy with work on Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Rumours that Chris was being unfaithful began to spread, and Anna began to open up to the media about the effects the rumours had on their relationship.
She said on her own podcast, Unqualified, “It made me feel incredibly insecure. Chris and I, we talk about this a lot. We grapple with a lot of the ideas of being a public couple”.
Separation and divorce
When the couple announced their separation on August 7th, 2017, they both posted this statement on their social media:
“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.”
In a 2021 episode of her podcast, Anna reflected on her relationship with Chris and admitted that she never shared her problems with her ex with her inner circle – and neither did he.
“After every breakup, at some point I realise there are a lot of things I ignored that I really shouldn’t have,” she told guest Rachel Blison.
Chris and Katherine
Despite the breakup, Chris and Anna have successfully remained on good terms. When Chris and Katherine announced their marriage on social media, Anna almost immediately sent her congratulations on Instagram, commenting on both Chris’s and Katherine’s posts.
Anna told Today that Chris even called her to tell her that he was going to propose to Katherine. Even after their separation, Anna had nothing but good things to say about her ex, and said that neither of them held any grudges.
Anna said on her podcast, “Sweet Chris, my ex, got engaged to Katherine today, and I’m so happy for them. I knew that it was gonna happen, and I love her and I love him. I’m just so happy that they found each other.”
In April 2023, Chris divulged a few more details about meeting Katherine, admitting he felt “broken” before meeting her at church.
“I met Katherine, now it’s been five, maybe six years ago, and God has a fast-forward button. When it’s right — boom,” he told Drew Barrymore. “You get hit. You fall in love. You get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters to add to my family, and it feels really great.”
“There was a moment in my life that I was really struggling and felt really broken,” he shared. “For me, my own journey of finding a higher power and leaning on that and feeling like, ‘Please save me,’ and then feeling saved … and then shortly, later meeting, you know, the woman of my dreams and being like, ‘This is, wow, this feels great’.”
He also shared with Drew, how the two first crossed paths, explaining he had spotted her during a church service.
“You kind of don’t want to be like, ‘Whoa, who’s that?’ at church,” he said. “But I was kind of sneaking some glances, and I’m wondering, ‘Who is that? Anyway, what am I doing? Come on, I’m broken; help me. But who’s that?’ So we kind of hit it off. We didn’t start dating right away, but we met there and then later on, ended up going out.”
Admitting that their connection was “very quick,” Chris explained that “it made sense…It’s like when you’re … doing a puzzle. And there’s a piece, and you’re like, ‘I’m certain that’s the piece’. Like it just fits together.”

Despite the breakup, Chris and Anna have tried to remain amicable for their son, and agreed in their divorce settlement to live within five miles of each other for the sake of their son Jack, who was age six at the time.
People were still hoping that the couple would get back together, and Chris and Anna were spotted on a walk together a year after their separation.
But just three months after their divorce was finalised, Chris began dating Katherine Schwarzenegger, the daughter of former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Chris and Katherine got engaged pretty quickly after a whirlwind romance and ended up getting married on June 8, 2019, at Montecito, California. The pair share two daughters: Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt who was born in 2020 and Eloise Christina Schwarzenegger Pratt who was born in 2022.
Anna has also since re-married to filmmaker Michael Barrett. The pair eloped in 2021, holding their ceremony in a courthouse in Washington State.
“We’re both introverts in a very similar way,” she said of Michael on her podcast.
“And he has two children and that has been awesome. I’ve really learned a lot about myself through his kids. It’s been really rewarding.”
However, the public is often defensive of Anna when it comes to the topic of their divorce. In a previous Instagram post featuring himself and Katherine, Chris wrote “She’s [Katherine] given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my earbuds to drown it out, but that’s love!”
Fans were divided over the fact that Jack had been seemingly omitted from the post, and had qualms that he had referred to his and Katherine’s daughter, Lyla Marie, as ‘healthy’ given that Jack was born prematurely.
In May 2023, Fans once again called out Chris’ lack of acknowledgment towards Anna after his Mother’s Day post failed to mention her.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there,” Chris wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of Katherine, his mother-in-law Maria and his mum Kathy Pratt.
“Especially grateful today for Katherine. You’re a wonderful partner. You’ve provided me such a blessed life. Our two daughters are so lucky to have you and you’re the best step mama to Jack.”
“And to my mom, Kathy, you raised us with such love and light and laughter— so grateful for you today and always. And to Maria, the best Mama G, I’m lucky to have you as a mother-in-law,” Chris continued.
“And to all of the other moms in my life, I’m so grateful for all you do- thank you so much. Hope you feel celebrated today.”
However, given the strong nature of Anna and Chris’s relationship, we doubt there’ll be any bad blood between the two.
