Chubba Purdy’s real name is Chubba Purdy. However, the name he was born with is Preston – Chubba was a nickname. He got his nickname because, as it suggests, when he was young – an infant, in fact – he was quite chubby.
His father, Shawn Purdy, goes so far as to say he was “huge,” according to AZ Central. By the age of one, Chubba Purdy reportedly weighed 32lb (14.5kg).

Born July 30, 2001, Chubba Purdy’s age at time of publication is 21. He will turn 22 this summer coming. He turned 18 in 2019, when AZ Central wrote about how he wants to be “better than his brother Brock at everything.”
According to his profile on the Huskers Football website, he is currently a sophomore at the University of Nebraska, and plays for the Cornhuskers. After he turned 18 in 2019, Purdy said he wanted to legally change his first name to Chubba, which would make his nickname more real than his “real” name, Preston.
As the Tallahassee Democrat reported in 2021, Purdy “officially” took the name Chubba once he was of age. AZ Central, meanwhile, quotes him as having said the reason he changed his name was because “everyone calls me Chubba.”

Chubba was a four-star prospect for Perry High School, in Arizona.
His Huskers bio notes that he accounted for 9,000 yards of offence and 111 touchdowns during two seasons as a starter.
He spent two seasons at Florida State in 2020-21. As a freshman in 2020, he played in three games, during which he completed 27 passes and two touchdowns; rushed 19 times for 57 yards; and became the fifth ever true freshman quarterback to start a game in Florida State history.
Purdy then transferred to Nebraska, where he played six games in his first season.
