There are plenty of twists and turns in store for fans of the series as Joe Goldberg attempts to settle down into the suburban life with Love and their newborn baby, Henry.

In the final episode of You season 3, matters take a dramatic turn as Joe and Love turn on each other in a brutal climax that ends with Joe taking a knife to cut off his own toes.

Season 3 of You arrived on Netflix on October 15th, 2021, almost two years since season 2 graced our screens.

In the new batch of episodes, we catch up with Joe and Love in their new suburban paradise, Madre Linda. The couple are now married and have a young baby named Henry to care for.

While it may seem like a match made in heaven, Joe still has lingering doubts about Love’s intentions and when the couple’s neighbour catches Joe’s eye, matters take another murderous turn before spiralling out of control completely.

Why did Joe cut off his toes?

Joe cut off his toes so that he could fake his death and make it seem like Love killed him.

In the final episode of season 3, Joe and Love’s complicated relationship came to a dramatic end as the couple got into the biggest of all fights over Joe’s affair with Marienne.

The brutal showdown saw Joe get temporarily paralysed and ended with Love getting killed as the couple dosed each other with aconite poison from the wolf’s bane plant.

To help cover his tracks, Joe cut off two of the toes on his right foot, hiding one in a pie and another in a keepsake box which he placed beside Love’s body.

The intention behind this gruesome act was to help convince people that Love had brutally killed him so that he could slip away to Paris and track down Marienne whom he’d grown obsessed with throughout season 3.

This isn’t the first time Joe has lost an appendage either. In season 2, when Joe was masquerading as Will Bettelheim, a man named Jasper cut off the tip of one of his fingers as the real Will owed him money. Although on this occasion Joe managed to have his finger reattached.

Fans react to gruesome scene

It’s safe to say that You fans were left a little grossed out by Joe’s actions in episode 10 and many have taken to social media to offer up their thoughts.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “I think the worst part about the ending was joe cutting off his toes to fake his death, that’s unhinged bruh #younetflix.”

While another added: “I finished you s3 and joe rly makes his life as complicated as possible what gave him the idea to chop 2 whole toes off 😭😭😭 i hate him.”

This fan commented: “I will never be able to listen to exile again without seeing joe literally get rid of his toes wtf.”

And finally, this fan said: “8 toe Joe see you in season four.”
