The first season of Firefly Lane ended by showcasing a firey 1980s romance starting between Johnny (Ben Lawson) and Kate (Sarah Chalke).
Fast forward to the early 2000s, now married and with a child, things are much less fierce for Kate and Johnny. The couple’s relationship is now troubled, and they eventually, get divorced.

Why did Kate and Johnny get divorced in Firefly Lane?
When the couple decided to split up, Kate stated she has feelings for another person. However, this is not true.

It is later revealed that Kate told Johnny this because she wanted him to fight for her and their relationship.
Over the years, the couple drifted apart for numerous reasons. Desperately seeking to reconnect with her husband and ignite the spark one last time, Kate confesses her false feelings for another, although this does not create the outcome she desired. Johnny does not fight for her and their relationship comes to a close.
The first season showed the couple signing their divorce papers and beginning their separate journeys. Johnny begins his military tour in Iraq whilst Kate focuses on journalism. Although, a final night together before Johnny leaves hints that something still remains between the exes.
Like any good love story, hope remains and blossoms throughout despite their separation. After an explosive injury leaves Johnny in a vulnerable place, the couple reconnects and their divorce becomes a thing of the past.
