A. Baio is still in the business, but he does a lot of work behind the cameras these days. His last attempt at starring in a series, a Fox sitcom called Rewind, was on the network’s original schedule for last season, but the show failed to develop as the network anticipated and it never made it onto the air. Baio was cast in Diagnosis Murder in the hope that he would bring a younger audience to the Dick Van Dyke vehicle. However, as the series evolved, it became clear that only older fans of Van Dyke were tuning in, so Baio made his exit.

A. Don’t you love being able to taunt your spouse with, I told you so! Bill Smitrovich was the patriarch on Life Goes On. Dan Lauria was the father on The Wonder Years and has a similar role on the new Fox sitcom Costello.

A. You are being subjected to trashy talk shows in the morning rather than The View because WPLG-Ch. 10 makes a pile of money from junk talk. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale ABC affiliate does run The View at 2:05 a.m. It’s an ungodly hour, but this is what VCRs are for. Your best revenge would be to tape The View, then watch it when WPLG is presenting one of those shows you abhor.

Q. Twenty-some years ago, Bernadette Peters was in a sitcom called All’s Fair. Can you tell me who the male lead was? C.M., Coconut Creek
A. Richard Crenna played Peters’ husband in the CBS sitcom about a conservative political columnist and his liberal wife, which lasted only one season, 1976-77.

A. Hope you caught the report I filed from the summer press tour. Noth is stepping back into the role of Detective Mike Logan for an NBC movie, Exiled, which will air in the fall. The TV movie will explain what has happened to Noths character in the intervening years. If the film turns out to be a ratings-grabber, it could be translated into a series. However, there are no plans to bring Noth back to Law & Order.
Q. When will WQAM radio (AM 560) replace The First Team with something intelligent, sportscasters who are not shills and lobbyists? B.A., Pompano Beach
A. I would take issue with your characterizations in some cases. However, in an ideal world, people who are dependent on working for a sports franchise for part of their living would not be talk hosts. This is especially true when the owner of the teams is Wayne Huizenga, who is not known for his tolerance of criticism. In any case, The First Team will be driving you crazy for some time. WQAM is pleased with Joe Rose, Jeff DeForest and Steve Goldstein on the air and in the ratings.
