I know I have talked about itching a lot in passing in my previous posts. In this post, I will be telling you why I think your scalp itches after you get your retwists done.
Here’s how it goes, your hair is all good and in its element, doing its own thing. Then you get a maintenance/touch up, and it feels like you committed an abomination. It begins to itch (like crazy) just a few days later and you can’t even wrap your head around it.

I don’t have an excuse but in my defense, Nigeria has been happening to me.I was to write my final professional exams in June but there is an ongoing Association of Staff of University Lecturers (ASUU) strike, so I have been in a limbo for over a month now. This is why you should get your PVCs before July 31st, revalidate if you already have one and come out to vote on the election day.
Anyways back to itchy scalp…
These are some of the reasons why your scalp may be itchy immediately after you relock/retwist:
1. Style and/or Retwist too tight:Let me start with the retwist, you see those tight retwist that will look like your scalp is about to separate from your skull, tell your loctitian to stop it.You shouldn’t feel pain while retwisting, maybe just discomfort but not pain.Any style that hurts, isn’t the style for you please. When the style is too tight, it will cause little wounds on your scalp that might itch when it starts to heal.I know they say beauty is pain but please, beauty shouldn’t be pain.
2. Sensitive Scalp: Your loctitian might be using oils or product(s) that your scalp is sensitive to. This might cause you to itch. Some people react to heavy oils or certain oils. Try to vet whatever your loctitian/stylist is using. Also, knowing what works best for you so you can appropriately inform your lotitician is also a bright idea.

3. Thick hair/Semi free-form: if you have a head full of hair and you do not retwist often, say once in 4 months or more, so your scalp is hardly ever seen, getting a retwist would make your scalp visible. This might cause it to itch when it gets exposed to Sun, wind or other physical factors.
4. Dry Scalp: Your scalp might just be thirsty. If your scalp was dry and you went ahead to put oils before the retwist, your scalp is still dry. It is just shiny dry. There is no moisture without water, oil is not moisture. If your scalp is dry before a retwist, try to moisturise with water before using oils.
5. Too much oils: if your loctitian tries to finish all the money you paid on your scalp with her oils, it might just be causing the itching.Try to give your scalp some air, it helps.
