“Why Worry” is a song by ‘Pop-punk’ band “Set It Off”, from the album “Duality”. The song has a widely disputed message – but the meaning making the most sense would be “accept that worry exists – if it doesn’t help, why can we worry in the first place?” – showing that worrying – in its own way – can be helpful.
This can be better interpreted through the video – where there are eventually two different versions of Cody; The happy-go-lucky “don’t worry” Cody ends up bursting in, making the mood awkward and almost misplaced, while the original Cody ends up prevailing, telling the crowd to sing with him – to sing the anthem of “worrying isn’t 100% pointless”. The second Cody ends up being completely taken out within a few seconds, while the “pro-worry” Cody and the crowd end up embracing the human feature of worry.

A member of the band has been stated to have anxiety, and this song may serve as a reminder to them, and everyone else, that sometimes there is a reason behind worrying – otherwise, it wouldn’t really happen! The second verse mentions more fortunate people telling everyone else never to worry – allowing the song to shift the negative light onto the “Don’t worry, be happy” side, and to paint worry as more desirable than trying to suppress an emotion or feeling. However, to support the other view – the song may also help cope with unnecessary anxiety or worries, as breathing with the rhythm of the song (4 beats in, 4 beats out) is often a common coping method. The ultimately complex view is that the song states that sometimes, worry is fine, and has a purpose – while other times, the song can help someone cope or calm, using the upbeat rhythm and light-hearted counter-argument.

Regardless, the song can be enjoyed by people accepting all worry, disregarding all worry, or, preferably, keeping controlled and sustained worry – not showing needless worry, but not showing misplaced happiness/calmness – and allowing people to handle their feelings correctly; Worrying isn’t always ideal, but it is natural and sometimes appropriate.
A music video for the song was released October 13th, 2014.
