The titular star of the ‘Ahsoka’ Star Wars series has always been associated with two lightsabers. Ahsoka Tano is a skilled duelist known for wielding a pair of lightsabers that allowed her to use her lightsaber combat form perfectly. Of course, not many Jedi in the Star Wars world get to wield two lightsabers, as this depends entirely on the preferred combat style of the person involved. So, how and when did Ahsoka get two lightsabers?
Ahsoka got her second lightsaber during the second half of the Clone Wars, traveling to Ilum to get a second Kyber Crystal she needed to construct the second lightsaber. Ahsoka decided to take up the Jar’Kai fighting style of using two lightsabers, and for that, she decided to create a Shoto lightsaber with a light green blade.

Ahsoka has two lightsabers, which makes her unique compared to many different Jedi who prefer to use single blades instead of two. Of course, there’s a good reason why she uses two lightsabers, especially when you consider that Ahsoka has always been known for a certain style of combat that not a lot of Jedi use. Let’s look at how and when Ahsoka got her two lightsabers.
How did Ahsoka get two lightsabers?
Introduced in the 2008 ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’ movie, Ahsoka Tano was a Padawan learner assigned to Anakin Skywalker to hone her talents in the Force while participating in the different battles waged during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka was shown to be quite talented as a young Jedi Padawan, even though she had the same headstrong and somewhat reckless nature that made Anakin notorious among the Jedi. Nevertheless, she had the potential to become one of the best duelists among the Jedi.
Ahsoka initially used one lightsaber that she wielded proficiently using the reverse grip that was always associated with the Shien variation of Form V. Ahsoka was excellent at battling droids with this saber because Shien was developed for deflecting blaster bolts back at a ranged attacker. Ahsoka was also able to use Shien and the second Form V variation, Djem So, effectively against the likes of General Grievous and Asajj Ventress during the events of the Clone Wars.

However, during the latter half of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka became one of the few Jedi who were known to wield two lightsabers. At first, she wielded a single-bladed lightsaber that emitted a standard green blade. But she eventually became more known as a dual lightsaber wielder during the latter part of the war. And most people would associate Ahsoka with the image of her wielding two lightsabers.
Ahsoka eventually decided to stick with using two lightsabers her entire life. That is why she still wields two lightsabers during the ‘The Mandalorian’ events and in the ‘Ahsoka’ series. But how did Ahsoka get two lightsabers?
Of course, as mentioned, Ahsoka only had one lightsaber during the earlier part of her storyline. Jedi Padawans, before they are sent out to learn under Jedi Knights and Masters, are allowed to construct their own lightsabers by gathering a Kyber crystal on the planet of Ilum before using the crystal as the base of a lightsaber. Ahsoka got her first green lightsaber before she was placed under the guidance of Anakin Skywalker.
Meanwhile, at one point in the storyline of ‘Clone Wars,’ Ahsoka decided to take up Jar’Kai, which is the art of wielding two lightsabers simultaneously. She learned under Jedi Master Yoda offscreen. It was also during the same time that she decided to take up Jar’Kai that she traveled back to Ilum to harvest a second Kyber crystal that served as the base of her second lightsaber.
Using this new crystal, Ahsoka constructed a shoto lightsaber shorter than her original lightsaber but perfect for her own Jar’Kai style paired with her preferred Shien combat form. This new Shoto lightsaber emitted a unique light green color different from her original.

When Ahsoka left the Jedi Order after she felt betrayed by the Jedi High Council in the matter involving the false criminal charges against her during the investigation of the bombing of the Jedi Temple, she surrendered her lightsabers to the Jedi. Ahsoka decided to walk her own path for a while without using lightsabers.
However, near the end of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka decided to assist Bo-Katan Kryze in the Siege of Mandalore as Darth Maul and the Shadow Collective had taken control over the planet. Anakin gave Ahsoka back her lightsabers but modified them to emit the same blue blades that Anakin’s own lightsaber emitted.
After the events of Order 66, Ahsoka deposited her lightsabers on the crash site of the Tribunal ship so that the Empire would think that she died during the crash. She eventually replaced her old lightsabers with two new ones that emitted white blades after she defeated an Inquisitor on Raada and used the crystals in his double-bladed lightsaber for her new lightsabers.
When did Ahsoka get her second lightsaber?
There is no exact timeline as to when Ahsoka got her second lightsaber. We know that she got her first lightsaber just before the events of the Clone Wars started. However, she got her second lightsaber during the events of the third season of ‘Clone Wars.’ Specifically, Ahsoka got her second lightsaber between the events of ‘Sphere of Influence’ and ‘Heroes on Both Sides.’
That was also the time when Ahsoka decided to take up Jar’Kai. While this was never shown during the events of ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars,’ it was shown in the animated mini-series ‘Star Wars Forces of Destiny.’ In the 11th episode entitled ‘Teach You, I Will,’ Ahsoka already had two lightsabers, as she was still struggling to learn how to dual-wield. Yoda eventually taught Ahsoka how to wield her shorter shoto lightsaber after she struggled in a sparring session against Anakin.
