Emma Hernan joined Selling Sunset in its fourth season and, while she’s had a few plot lines of her own, she quickly fell into the role of co-star Chrishell Stause’s BFF.
But as devoted Selling Sunset fans know, Emma isn’t just a luxury realtor/reality star. She ~also~ owns a company that makes frozen plant-based empanadas, which is something she promoted pretty heavily when she first joined the show.

This season, she’s gotten into a fight with Nicole Young and supported Chrishell when she had a health issue. But Emma also raised eyebrows when she took a few of her co-workers to Cabo, Mexico, on what appeared to be her private jet which is…kind of a bit deal. But wait—how does Emma have a private jet? And how much is her net worth, exactly? Here’s the deal.
Emma grew up outside of Boston.
The reality TV personality was born and raised in the small beach town of Scituate, Massachusetts, which is near Boston. “It was one of the best places to grow up,” she previously told Women’s Health. “All of my neighbors were my best friends.” She now lives in LA, but her family is still back East, so she often goes back and forth to see them and deal with her business (more on that in a sec).
She started modeling at a young age.
Emma used to be a model, starting at age 14 with the Boston-based Model Club Inc., per the Boston Business Journal. During her modeling days, Emma worked with brands like Gap and Puma.
It’s unknown how much Emma make as a real estate agent.
Selling Sunset is a little deceptive about how much money The Oppenheim Group agents actually take home. While the show lists the commissions each agent makes when they’ve sold a property, it doesn’t mention that they only get a cut of that.

Jason Oppenheim broke it all down during the season 7 finale: The agents get a 80/20 percent commission split, which means that 80 percent of each commission goes to the agent and 20 percent goes to the O Group (i.e. their brokerage).
The commission on most home purchases is 5 percent, and it’s often split in half between the buying and selling agent. From there, that 2.5 percent is broken down into 80 percent for the agent and 20 percent for the brokerage—and agents have to pay taxes on that money, too.
As for how much Emma makes in real estate, it varies depending on how well she’s doing at any given time.
She’s a food entrepreneur and owns her own empanada company.
Emma has talked a lot about her frozen vegan empanada line, Emma Leigh & Co. The company website is pretty scarce, but it lists a smattering of locations where you can buy the empanadas, including QVC. The line is small and features mini vegan “beef” empanadas and “sausage” pizza empanadas (both cost $100 for 36 pieces which… isn’t cheap).
Worth noting: While Emma makes a big deal about starting her own company, the contact email for her brand goes to Yankee Trader Seafood, which is a seafood processing company that her grandfather, Gerry McAdams, founded in 1994, per Boston magazine. It’s still a family-owned and -operated business, with frozen food products in grocery stores across the country.
She owns a private jet—maybe.
Details about the PJ are scarce, but Emma mentioned on the show when she first joined back in 2021 that she uses her jet to go back and forth to the East coast for business.
But while Emma implied that the jet is hers, plenty of people online are suggesting that it’s actually from a company called Wheels Up, which charters jets for people and businesses. In fact, there’s a whole Reddit thread devoted to this. “It’s clearly a charter,” one person wrote on the thread. “Also, LA to Cabo PJ charter is probably only $10-20k one way for so few ppl so the $$ is not that absurd. I don’t think Emma paid for it honestly.”

Another chimed in with this: “You need to have wealth of at least $100 million to actually own a jet (maintaining it plus the fuel is expensive). There are small planes that are on the cheaper end but that is not what they are on in the show. I only know two people who own jets (G7s) and they are both billionaires.”
During Emma’s first season of filming, she shared BTS pics on Instagram from a “jet scene” for the show and, in one shot, the words “Wheels” can clearly be seen on the side of the jet. So, there’s that.
In 2022, Emma’s empanada company shared another photo of her from a private jet, and this one definitely looked different on the inside than the jet featured above and the one that was most recently on the show:
Perhaps Emma has changed jets over the years, was photographed in a buddy’s jet, or she simply charters a PJ from time to time.
How does Emma’s net worth compare to her Selling Sunset co-stars?
It’s hard to say. Based on WH’s previous research, the Oppenheim brothers are seemingly worth the most at about $50 million a piece. Of the agents, Chrishell appears to make the most out of everyone—she’s currently worth $6 million.
Emma reportedly falls below that. “Being in the food industry is a huge part of my story and also transitioning into real estate,” she previously told People. “A lot of the ties that I made from that—and from being a woman CEO and a woman entrepreneur—mean I’ve met other CEOs who are now purchasing homes.” She also lists herself as an angel investor on her Instagram bio.
What is Emma’s total net worth in 2023?
Emma’s O Group bio says she’s a “self-made multi-millionaire,” but other than that, there are no reliable estimates online about her net worth. That said, Emma is worth a reported $3 million, according to Heart.co.uk.
