Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is unique in many ways, but his finger twitching prior to snaps continues to confuse NFL fans.
Mahomes is often seen spreading his thumb and pinky finger wide and twitching his other three fingers before lining up for the next snap, something which was unexplained until now. Fans noticed him doing it constantly during Sunday’s 31-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, with many wondering if there was a special meaning behind it.

According to Distractify, it’s simply a gesture he does to tell his teammates to hurry back into formation and prepare for the next snap. It’s a habit that stayed with Mahomes throughout his NFL career, but with two Super Bowl wins under his belt it’s not something he’s in a rush to change.

Sunday looked like another disaster for the Chiefs, as they trailed by 14 points against the Raiders in the second quarter. The Chiefs aren’t a team that is used to losing, especially not consecutive games, but they went into Sunday’s game with a two-game losing streak.
After losing their season opener against the Detroit Lions the Chiefs went on a seven-game winning streak, with Taylor Swift proving to be a lucky charm as she watched four of them from the executive box. But their 7-1 record soon dropped to 7-3, as although tight end Travis Kelce remains a reliable outlet, elsewhere on offense Mahomes has been let down.
Their loss against the Denver Broncos in Week 9 was a shock, as it was the first time they’d been beaten by their AFC West rivals since 2015. They were then beaten by the now 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles, as Jason Kelce finally earned a win over brother Travis.

But they looked back to their best in Week 12 after recovering their 14-point deficit, outscoring the Raiders 31-3 for the remainder of the game. Mahomes was relieved at the end of the game and said to the media the team had gone back to basics.
“You wash it, you learn from it and you kinda just go back to the fundamentals and working,” Mahomes said in his postgame press conference after ending their loss streak. “We still have stuff to learn from this game. There were certain situations where we didn’t execute at a high enough level.
“We obviously took a step in the positive direction. Now let’s just continue to do that throughout the rest of the season.” The Chiefs are one win behind AFC leaders Baltimore Ravens but could catch them up as they’re yet to sit during their bye week. The Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chiefs are all tied on 8-3, hunting down the Ravens for the No. 1 seed.
