They have put in place rigorous standards that forbid any conduct or anything that can exploit or put children at risk on their site. In a recent discovery made by some Facebook users, an unusual phenomenon came to light when searching the seemingly innocuous phrase “chicken soup” in the platform’s search bar.

Nonetheless, the search yielded an unexpected warning message related to child abuse. Due to the platform’s aggressive attempts to stop the spread of hazardous information affecting kids, this revelation has alarmed users and spurred discussions among them.

So, here’s what we know about it:

A Chicken Soup’ search yields a child abuse warning explained.

On Facebook, it has come to light that unsuspecting users who search for “chicken soup” are suddenly and distressingly presented with the warning, “Child s*xual abuse is illegal.”

The warning message goes on to emphasize the devastation that child abuse does to vulnerable youngsters while sternly reminding the audience of the dire repercussions that come with it. It said,

“We think your search might be associated with child s*xual abuse. Child abuse, or viewing images or videos of children, can lead to imprisonment and other severe personal consequences.”

It also emphasizes the help that is available from groups fighting such horrible crimes. It added,

“Child exploitation causes extreme harm to children. Searching for and viewing abusive and exploitative material adds to that harm. There are organizations that can provide help and support.”

Users are visibly perplexed as they question why a seemingly harmless sentence results in such a serious warning. Facebook and other social media sites have been struggling to stop child abuse online, and this opaque usage of coded language is a worrying issue.

Why is this happening?

The warning is necessary because those who distribute photographs of child assault on social media employ coded language to publish such materials without being discovered.

According to NBC, this “evades the companies’ detection tools” and permits the exploitative content to continue to exist on the websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They said,

“Sometimes they used generic terms with the initials ‘C.P.’, a common abbreviation for ‘child p***ography, and codes like ‘caldo de pollo’, which means ‘chicken soup’ in Spanish.”

The reason the term “chicken soup” was picked is unknown, but speaking normally permits them to avoid notice. However, Facebook is now showing the warning notice, indicating that it has clearly understood that the term is being used by those who exploit children.
