Becky Lynch: Paving the Way for NXT’s Future Stars

WWE superstar Becky Lynch has always been a trailblazer in her career. Now, as she returns to NXT, her mission is to mentor and prepare the next generation of talent to become main event headliners in the company.

After an intense feud with WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark, Lynch, who first started in NXT almost 10 years ago, made her way back to the developmental show. In her comeback, she challenged NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton for the title and emerged victorious on September 12, becoming the sixth Women’s Grand Slam champion in the process.

Lynch is set to defend her title against Stratton in an extreme rules match at NXT No Mercy this Saturday. When asked why she decided to return and her vision for her time in NXT, Lynch explained her desire to elevate the brand and work with the future stars of the business.

“I wanted to put a spotlight on the brand, I wanted to elevate it, I wanted to work with the future of the business,” Lynch stated. “I wanted to go down there, see what it looks like, and push them a little further.”

Since Lynch’s return, NXT has experienced a significant increase in viewership. Her championship match with Stratton garnered higher viewership than the show had seen in years, and overall viewership for NXT has seen a 4% increase across all age groups, with a notable 26% increase in viewers aged 18-49 compared to 2022.

With more eyes on the brand, Lynch sees this as an opportunity to showcase rising stars and propel them to the next level. Although some may argue that main roster stars competing in NXT may limit opportunities for new talent, Lynch believes that the competition will ignite a fire within the NXT stars, driving them to prove themselves.

“I want people to be angry. Competition is usually stiffer when you’re hungry,” she emphasized.

When it comes to facing younger WWE stars, Lynch brings her best to the ring. She believes in bringing out the best in every performer she faces, regardless of their experience level. However, she recognizes the importance of adapting to the different pace and emotions when wrestling against less-experienced talent.

Lynch’s plan to continue growing the women’s division involves working closely with younger talent. She envisions a future where women headline shows and even WrestleManias. Although she hasn’t shared the ring with many other stars since returning to NXT, Lynch was particularly impressed with the skills of her fellow Irish star, Lyra Valkyria, during their tag team match on September 19.

As for Lynch’s future plans, she is excited about her upcoming extreme rules match. She loves the creativity that comes with stipulation matches and enjoys contemplating how much pain she can inflict or endure. Lynch intends to retain the NXT title and has her sights set on the road to WrestleMania.

The end of the calendar year holds several significant events for WWE, including Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble, and Elimination Chamber, leading up to WrestleMania 40 on April 6-7. Since it will mark eight years since her first WrestleMania match, Lynch wants the flagship event in Philadelphia to be a memorable one. She even mentioned potentially facing Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley in a champion vs. champion showdown.

“Maybe it will be championship for championship, winner takes all,” she teased. “We’ll see.”

Becky Lynch’s return to NXT is not just about her own success but also about nurturing and inspiring the next generation of WWE superstars. With her determination and focus on setting up the future, it’s clear that Lynch’s impact will be felt long after her time in the ring.
