But when your order arrives, the delivery courier asks to see your ID, wants you to sign their phone, or enter a PIN.

If you are asked to show ID, it’s because your order has alcohol in it. All delivery apps require that drivers scan your ID to verify that you are 21 or older.
If you need to enter a PIN or signature to complete your delivery, it’s due to one of the following reasons:
- You have recently reported missing items or a missing order
- You are a new customer
- You are ordering from a different address than usual
- The merchant has issues with frequent undelivered orders
- The merchant requires signature confirmation. Common for Apple and other expensive deliveries
- Your delivery courier has several reports of missing deliveries
PINs and signatures might seem inconvenient, but they are designed to protect the customer, the merchant, and DoorDash.

Order has alcohol? You need to show ID to receive the delivery
In all 50 states of the US, delivery couriers must ask for valid identification to verify that the person receiving an alcohol delivery is 21 years or older.
Valid forms of ID are a US driver’s license, passport (US or international), US state ID, or US military ID.
Be prepared to show ID if your order has alcohol! Delivery drivers may need to scan the IE or take a photo of it to complete the delivery. They will refuse the delivery if you don’t show ID.
Unlike restaurants and stores, you will still have to show ID even if you appear much older than the legal age.
Why some DoorDash orders require a signature
Some DoorDash deliveries require a customer signature even if there is no alcohol in the order. You’ll get a popup alert when your signature is required, such as the one below.
Your Dasher will ask you to type your name into their phone and enter a signature.

Typically, the DoorDash system will ask you to sign for your orders if you have previously reported missing items or missing deliveries.
But reports of missing items and missing deliveries aren’t the only reason for the signature requirement.
DoorDash might also ask you to sign for a delivery if the restaurant has an unusually high number of order issues, or if the Dasher has frequent reports of missing deliveries.
Valuable deliveries from stores like Apple or Best Buy might also require a signature.
Why some orders on Uber Eats require a PIN
Uber Eats requires a PIN verification for some orders. Here’s why:
- You previously reported missing items or missing deliveries
- You are ordering for the first time
- You are ordering from a different location than usual
- Your courier has frequent reports of missing deliveries
- The order is from a retailer that requires signatures
PIN verification is easy: Simply tell the PIN to your driver once they arrive. Your driver can’t complete the delivery without the PIN, so make sure to have it ready!
How to find the PIN for an Uber Eats order
After you place your order, you will see a popup that says “Confirm delivery with PIN ####.” Often, the PIN is the last 4 digits of the phone number connected to your Uber Eats account.
While your order is being prepared, the tracking screen will have a section that lists the PIN and further instructions.
Once your driver is on the way, the PIN will be listed next to the delivery driver’s information.
Have your PIN ready to make the handoff as smooth as possible. Your driver won’t know why a PIN is required—it’s out of their control.

The Uber app will prompt you to enter a PIN for orders that require one. Ask the customer for a PIN, then enter it into the app to complete the delivery.

Many drivers have reported that the PIN is typically the last four numbers of the customer’s phone number.
So if your customer can’t find their PIN, tell them to try the last four digits of their phone number. Most customers want to finish the delivery quickly and will gladly give you the info.
But if the customer refuses to give you the info or if the number they provide doesn’t work, you can complete the delivery without the PIN or refuse the delivery. It’s up to you.
How to finish an Uber Eats delivery without entering the pin
You can complete a delivery without entering the customer’s pin by going to Help > Trouble with PIN > Ordered was delivered.
PINs can help prevent customer complaints and fraudulent reports, so it’s a good idea to try to get the PIN first.
Only use the steps above if you’re confident you delivered to the right person and there’s no other way to get the PIN.
